Hi, I’m an incoming freshman at Boston university and I’m planning on moving in on the 28th. Me and my parents are going to drive up from New Jersey and we are wondering how the parking, unpacking of the car, etc is going to work. We checked the site and it gave no insight to this. Also my mom is kind of freaking out about when they’ll be forced to leave or not come with me farther so if anybody knows anything it would be greatly appreciated!

PS. I am in the Towers if that makes a difference

youll see signs for move in parking and stuff. i moved in earlier for my freshman year, it can get pretty hectic there. parents can stay in the dorms essentially all day, but they would be seperated for matriculation. i believe they can still watch the event.

Well matriculation isn’t until Sunday anyway.

From what I heard, it’s busy, yes. But that’s to be expected. People have told me that they are very organized about it and that it’s less chaotic than you would think. There is minimal parking along Bay State Road, but I was told that there are police directing traffic and may instruct you to even double park. There should be those big laundry carts available for renting to move your things, and plenty of people to help you. As far as registering and getting your keys, I’ve also heard that it’s a pretty organized process. Keep in mind that nearly 1/4 of the freshman population has already moved in because of FYSOP, as well.

Since you’re in Towers, it may even more less hectic, especially considering that I believe a majority of the population there are not freshman. Long story short: BU has thousands of new students moving in every year. The process is probably about as good as it can get. With some patience and cooperation, you should be fine. Nothing to stress over.

Go to bu.edu/today and read the article titled “Assembly Required.” It’s all about how the university manages move in, along with projected busy times. Don’t miss the Flash graphic showing special traffic routes.

I am so glad we’re doing this on Friday, not Saturday!

Is there really a lot of upperclassmen in the Towers? I thought I had heard that both Warren and The Towers were mostly freshman… Is it at least evenly split because I was hoping to be able to be able to meet a bunch of freshmen on my floor (4W- engineering floor)

Towers is mostly freshmen.
As for 4W, there’s only about 4-6 upperclassmen (Out of 40)

Move in is pretty simple really, it can be really weird for your paents if you’re the first child to go to college or something. But parking isn’t really that complicated.
Towers is on baystate road which is parallel to the main road of the campus so it isn’t terrible. There is also parking at parking zones, like 4 of htem spread out over campus?

your parents can stay with you the entire time except when you have to do matriculation and they sitin a different section

oh ok thats a relief, I’m assuming that its all guys on 4W since its the engineering floor and in general its co-ed by floor but is there any remote chance girls are on it too? Because my RA is actually a girl so it seemed like there may be a shred of hope haha

Yeah, that single-sex floor thing was disappointing last year (after living on a co-ed Warren floor my freshman year). You will still meet many of the opposite sex. Hello floor below and above!

Just moved D in yesterday for FYSOP. Have to say there were a lot of people standing around being friendly, but absolutely no help at all. The big orange move in carts were free - just had to leave student ID. Except for the rain, it was fine - the orange carts hold a lot.
