Hi,

I'm taking a bus to college. Did anyone else do this? Are there disadvantages to not bringing a car to move-in day?

Thanks.

you could probably manage if you have to, but i know for a fact all my stuff would neverrrr fit in like…one suitcase below a bus…

Not really. Most people fly in from out of state anyway. Unless you’re bringing large furniture/ electronics. Then a car would be useful

If you take Amtrak trains, you can bring along three pieces of luggage (50lb. per piece). I’m not sure what limit buses have. Shouldn’t be a problem.

A car is definitely useful unless you’re bringing like nothing…

Yes it’s possible. You can get a couple of big duffle bags on the bus (in the luggage compartment). Once you get to destination city, you probably will need a cab to get those big duffles or suitcases to campus. That’s it. It’s easier to do this if you DON"T bring major appliances (or furniture, obviously). What do you really need at college? Clothes, laptop, a few reference books, bedding+towels, musical instrument. That’ll fit into 2 duffle bags plus a backpack or two. Also, you can ship stuff ahead to college via UPS or Post Office, and most colleges are pretty close to a Walmart or Bed Bath Beyond…

Good luck on your adventure. You’ll do fine with a bus.

Just fly. Or take Amtrak.

You can ship things ahead. That’s what lots of students do. The college can tell you what address to use and when you can send your things.

There are many kids who go to college on their own, and have no cars to move themselves in. This includes kids moving coast to coast as well as those moving from abroad.
