I will be moving my daughter into Unit 1 on August 20th. From what I’ve read, they let you unload your stuff in front of the building, then they give you a 4 hour permit for a parking space. Since I am going to stay beyond the 4 hrs., I am thinking of either parking in the city garage at Telegraph/Channing for the full time, or moving from the free lot to Telegraph/Channing after the 4 hours are up.
Questions:
–Is it true that you unload all belongings in front of the Units before you go to your assigned parking lot?
–Will the Telegraph/Channing garage be full on move-in day even though it isn’t one of the lots UCB uses for complimentary permits?
–Would it make more sense to just go straight to the Telegraph/Channing garage after unloading and use it for the day (16$) and just park once?
–Can I reserve my spot at the Telegraph/Channing garage?
generally true but you can go straight to a parking lot and move if you want as well. Similar to a hotel strategy I suppose.
I would think the parking lot would be full of people moving into Unit 3 and Blackwell. Unless you went really early in the morning and stayed there the whole day. Not a bad idea actually especially if you have a early or mid morning move in time.
unless you did 2), I think it would be better to reserve at someplace else like the First Congregational Church, for example. They probably would actually reserve a spot for you.
you can reserve a spot but I don’t think it gives you an exact stall number, so it might be pointless. Not sure though.
I was thinking (maybe hoping) that since the Telegraph/Channing garage is not under control by UCB and is not one of the complimentary lots they will assign on move-in day that maybe it wouldn’t be full. Can’t reserve a space there though there are private lots like the one you mentioned.
When your student moved into Blackwell which lot were you assigned for the complimentary 4-hour period?
The complimentary lot was the Lower Sproul garage, but I didn’t try since there was a queue to get in. I did see lots people moving stuff from the Telegraph-Channing garage to Blackwell and to Unit 3 so maybe with a cost (after the first hour), people are more apt to move in and out quicker at that lot.
Did you pull up to Blackwell first to unload? If not, was the Lower Sproul lot close enough that you would have been able to trek back and forth to move the items?
We went in Dana and found a close spot and unloaded. We tried to then park in Lower Sproul, gave up and we got street parking on Addison and Oxford for 2 hours instead.
Lower Sproul would have been ok since we did have a platform cart to lug stuff. It would have been a one-block walk, pretty much the same distance as from the Telegraph-Channing lot.
Thanks for the info. I just reserved a spot at 2304 Bowditch in the B7 lot from 9-7PM. I’ll need a spot for after the 4 hr. period is up anyway and it’s very close to Unit 1.
