Move-In Day(s)

Hey, I was curious as to any advice or general comments people have regarding Move-In Day, and whether anyone could provide a general overview of the days and how everything works. Thank you.

In general: You go to the checkin point for your dorm which will be clearly marked. THey check a list to make sure your student account is all settled and you get your room key/mailbox key, movein info/flyers, and a free water bottle or something. You'll also be able to see if your roommates/suitemates have already arrived. I always found this helpful so it's not a huge surprise when you walk in.

Once you've checked in you can borrow a big blue cart to load your stuff in and bring it upstairs. Depending on whether you're in a dorm or brownstone building, you may have an elevator or not. Expect to wait possibly a while for an elevator if you're coming during peak time.

There will also be really friendly upperclassman around to help with any questions or directions.

And just about everyone goes out shopping/to pick up books/get something to eat with their family/move-in help as a good bye afterwards, so don't expect tons of people to be around until the evening.

Good luck! It can be a little crazy. If you're checking in when it's not official check in time (i.e. NOT 10am-4pm) you'll be going directly to you Office of Res Life for your building and getting a temp key and then trading it in for your real key the next day.

Make sure the balance on your student account is $999 or less. If it is more than that, they will not give you a room key or let you move in.

if it is under $999, can we settle it right then and there?

If your balance is below $999, your account is settled. So, you won't have an issue moving in at that time. If it is more than $999, then you will need to go to Student Accounts to pay off the balance to settle your account. If you cannot pay off enough of the balance to settle your account, you will need to visit OFA to see what options are available for you to help pay off your balance to settle your account.

Get there early, especially if you're in the bigger dorms. It's an absolute madhouse.

I'm moving into West, but I won't get there until late afternoon. Any chance that things thin out by then?

Probably slightly, but last year West was still a madhouse all day.

All the big dorms will be a madhouse pretty much all week through Monday

Okay, arethe stores and streets pretty much insane, too? I'm flying from OOS and still have stuff to buy.

I moved into Warren around 3 or 4 PM last year, I think, and most people were done moving in by then.

Bed Bath and Staples were pretty nuts and the side streets near West were too, although the parking lot had spaces.

moving in was quick and easy the two years I've done it. the stores are crazy though, especially the book store.

As advice, first thing hook your computer up and follow the instructions to get on the BU network. Every once in a while a jack may be bad or something like that and better to get it taken care of early.

I moved in today (early move in) and it was not so hectic. I'm guessing tomorrow and the day after will be crazy.

Hey Kev, I got to Boston today and move in tomorrow!
