Move-in day timing question

My son moves into his dorm tomorrow. Move-in times are supposed to be 8-2.
The family reception is at 3:45.

What is it that ENDS at 2? The ability to use the elevators to move in? Family access to the dorms? If it's family access, what is the family supposed to do between 2 and 3:45?

We have tight timing issues with sisters' events, and 2-3:45 might be the only time one of his sisters can see his room and meet his roommate.

Also, are families still in and out on Saturday or by then is it just the students?

2 is the latest to pick up the keys at the dorm. Between 2 and 3:45 that is the time most people buy the kids books. There are 2 places to buy books, one on Rt 1 and the other is the Stamp. Trust me there will be parents still in the building at 3, 3:30, because the elevators are tiny and there is usually a wait for the carts.

Families do move in Sat. DS’s one roommate is coming from Del and the folks can’t get off from work. Just call the res office to find out where you get the keys.

It all worked out. He was in and settled by 10AM! He had already ordered his books online, although we’re still waiting for one to be delivered.

Glad to hear everything worked out well, pax. “In and settled” has a much different meaning for sons than daughters, I think. “In” took about 15 minutes for D2. “Settled” was about a 12 hour process!!!

I hope all the cc’ers got moved in before the rain!!! Either hot as Hades, or raining…pretty much a given for MD in August, I guess!

We were lucky with the rain. We picked up keys, dropped off some stuff, then headed to lunch, and it poured while we were at lunch. Stopped raining before we moved the rest of the stuff in after lunch. I saw one dad who was completely drenched still moving stuff in for his daughter. (Yeah boys are sooooo much easier than girls when it comes to moving into the dorm in my experience.)

I called DS friday night and he is back to being that college son I knew, real short answer, yep, nope, ah ha, anything else? I could here the noise so I knew they were already hanging with everyone they said goodby to last May.

Now for the funny part I called him at 2 yesterday to say I gave his number to a childhood friend who would be there, so don’t ignore this number. He answered groggy and I said did I wake you? Well I don’t think I need to tell any of you the answer. Oh to be young again!

Yeah, he had a couple of boxes of stuff to unpack and that. was. it. His room is pretty bland looking, though.

We were very lucky. My daughter moved in early so she avoided all the rain. we had no problems parking and everyone was very helpful at the Leonardtown Community Center.

We left the heavy lifting to my husband - walking up the stairs with the big boxes - and my daughters and I unpacked and cleaned up.

There was just a little “re-arranging” to be done once the roommate finalized her stuff.

All in all, fairly smooth!! I feel lucky, when I saw some of the hassles parents (especially moms) were having with their kids (especially daughters)!
