On the website, it is stated that Aug 21 is the move-in day and the campus will be opened at 7a.m.

I am an international student so when should I be there? If I arrive on Aug 20, where should I go? Can I arrive later? How many orientations are there for freshman students? Will Vanderbilt University have someone to see me at the airport and take me to the school ?

Thanks

Move in day is on August 20th this year. Not sure where on the website you got that information. Last years move in day was the 21st. Did you get your Road to Vanderbilt booklet? In there it explains the orientation type activities as well as has a calendar or events including move in.

Yes the move-in day is August 20th. On the Road to Vandy it also says “August 19th: International Student Pre-Orientation”. So I would be prepared for an even earlier arrival.

Vandy students use taxis to get from the airport to campus. No big deal and not expensive either. On major dates like Winter break, vans go to the airport and you can share costs. Please contact the International student advisor to get some of your specific concerns addressed. Don’t worry. Many international students before you have managed this with zero problems. Although Nashville is an important city in its region it is not New York or LA and it is easy to get around and not very stressful for you so don’t worry. My US son does Alternative Spring Break every year and many international students do this. There are even Alternative Thanksgiving Breaks now so you can stay busy with classmates during some of these shorter holidays if you don’t go back home all the time.

jyng822: how can I participate in the “International Student Pre-Orientation” when the campus is not be opened yet on 19 Aug? If I come there earlier than 19 Aug, where will I live? So when should I come to Vandy if I want to settle down early but not to wait for some days until the campus residential houses are opened.

I really want to wait till my Road to Vandy arrives but I have to book my airplane ticket soon. There are many internationals coming to the US on those days…and it is likely that I may not get the ticket at reasonable price.

bumppppp this is urgent. Please tell me anything about the orientation at Vandy in the “Road to Vandy”

Thankss

babyboom,

The only information in Road to Vanderbilt is the information that jyng822 posted. There is a list of events and it says “Friday, August 19: International Student Pre-Orientation”. Nothing more is said. I suggest that you contact Vanderbilt about your move in schedule. Maybe they allow international students to move in a day early.

hi babyboom,

i’m an international coming to vandy this fall too I think it’s compulsory to go for international orientation on the afternoon of 19th, so i’m arriving with my parents a few days earlier and checking in to a hotel before moving in on 20th. still looking for air tickets though!

you can read the road to vanderbilt online, i’m still waiting for it to come in the mail!

i just realised that the last post in this thread was may 2nd so my reply may be too late… hope it still helps ><

I think Vanderbilt lets internationals (as well as some other students, i.e. athletes and student workers for certain jobs) move in early.

I THINK. (indicating this may be incorrect)

While helping CO2014 move in last year, I recall signs on some doors that indicated the students living in that room had arrived early.

Talk to housing or the international student office.

Yah, I emailed an officer from ISSS and she told me that I could get in earlier :D. Do you think getting to Vandy on Aug 12 is too early? I have to buy lots of things and want to settle down early?
