No- don’t go to the service centers for keys- on opening day the Keys will be at the dorms on North. After Friday they will be at the Service Centers.

oldfort - You must be so excited to have another 4 years at Cornell. It’s my D’s last year and I’m sad it will soon be over!

woody - congrats. Hope you got lodging reserved for graduation.:)

mathmom, I just had a question about the bed board from Lowes… We have a spring bed frame that we would like to get a board for. Is this something that Lowes sells specifically for this purpose, or did you just go there and buy a piece of plywood and then have them cut it to size? Did you have to order it in advance? Thanks!

We just went in for a piece of plywood and asked them to cut it to size (we had measured the bed in advance). I recommend some masking or duct tape for the edges as well.

Speaking of thunderstorms, it was really coming down when we left Lowe’s (moving day last year)!

^^ Thanks! Good to know!

I do not think West will be so bad. they are letting you park on some grassy areas with the same policy as on North. that is, it’s an unloading area: no parking, you can stay there for 20 mins and one driver (with keys) needs to stay with the car.
at least in past years you could park on the Slope, which is a better deal than the people on North get (parking way up in A Lot). also, on West it’s just the transfers and highly punctual upperclassmen moving in on the first day, and then others trickle in so it’s not that intense.

My S is moving in to west on Tuesday, so the move-in traffic should be minimal, but I bet they won’t be letting him park on the grass near the building at that point.

Can’t you park in that parking lot next to Cook? Or is that all full?

@mathmomvt - as far as West Campus goes, depending on which house your son is in, we were able to park on Gothic Way off of University in the handicapped zone per the advice of the person checking us in (one person kept an eye on the car) and we could unload very easily to Rose. Cook, Boldt, Baker etc. are right there as well. You can drive up a bit further on Gothic Way and get to Bethe and Keeton, etc.- basically driving on the sidewalk.

I think you may also be able to get to Bethe and Keeton from a parking lot off of Campus Road where Psi Upsilon is but I am not sure you can drive up the sidewalk to the dorm from that way.

There is also blocked off parking right in front of Founders, McFadden, etc. on West Avenue. It’s actually really easy on an off day so you should not have any trouble. After we unloaded we parked on West in the blocked off parking and stayed all day and - no ticket!

I am not sure about the need to park on the slope on that day or parking in the grass.

Sounds good; I’m sure it will be a relatively easy day for move-ins. Only my H is going with my S this time, so there’ll be no one to stay with the car if my H helps with schlepping stuff but we’re assuming that will be ok on a less busy day.

Should be totally fine! My daughter reports that it isn’t too crazy on West and that people are parking all over including the slope.

thanks cormom!

Good luck to your son!

…D is living in Mennen, just got back from moving her in. Parked right behind dorm on Gothic way…very easy!

My son is on is way to move into his apartment for junior year! He should be arriving just about now (9 pm Friday night!). I hope all you parents moving in your newly minted Cornellian had a great day – and best wishes for the next four years. I am on year 6 and still thrilled with the education my kids are getting.

The move in was flawless again. D2 got her stuff before H managed to park the car. She lucked out with a large single.

I am always in awe every time I come back to Cornell. Happy to have four more years of it with D2.

We went to Maxie’s, the Ale House, and Stella already. We are going to Just a Taste before we leave.

Went to the Carriage House for lunch for first time, good Omelette.

Carriage House is my favorite! Wins my Brunch Choice award when I am not splurging on the Statler!

The Boatyard & Simeon’s are our favorites for dinner.
