I’m moving in the 28th to the university of
Connecticut just wondering if anyone has any tips or remembers how move in day goes
Like is it important to stay on campus and meet people, do you go out the first night? Or is it ok to go and get dinner with your parents before they leave. Ahahaha I’m pretty nervous any info would help
For the sake of your parents, go out to eat with them. It’s dining hall food until Thanksgiving. Meeting people doesn’t really start until new student orientation which is usually a couple of days after move in.
Usually there is some kind of Freshman orientation. When you get the schedule, go to those activities.
So if there is some kind of dinner the first night, go to that. This is how you make friends. Don’t worry about “going out” yet. Do as many of the orientation activities as you can so you can meet many people.
So at Uconn you have a Week of Welcome…the schedule is like this (not sure if this is the latest, but it is an example)
http://huskywow.uconn.edu/friday-august-22/
Basically your parents can help you move in/buy stuff/buy your books, etc. until 4:00pm and then they are to leave.
Then you eat dinner in the dining halls…i would go with people from my dorm.
You can see the rest of the schedule on the link above.
@bopper 's post is very helpful in that it has Uconn-specific info you. I would have never thought that parents are “kicked out” at 4PM, but if that’s true, it seems like the rest of your day/night is planned for you!
As far as meeting people and going to places in a group, “mind if I tag along?” will go a long way
Thank you!! I plan on doing that especially since it’s a state school and I’m out of state!
