what time do the dorms open on the 26th. and is it gonna be as crowded as im thinkin (ive heard that the line wraps around the building... that should be fun).

I thought they opened up on the 27th?

Luckily...I haven't purchased my flight yet.

They open the 27th actually. Its divided into 2 sections, 9a-1p is the first group and then 1p-5p is the second. It's divided by what your last name begins with, the first halfish of the alphabet is 1st, then the 2nd. I can't remember where they divide it though, try checking thei website maybe.

I'm sure they will tell us that info soon, right? That seems pretty essential.

The dorms open on the 27th, get there as early as possible, moving in takes FOREVER. Last year when I moved into Rubin, it was seriously about 90 degrees, and most of us had to take the stairs because it was so crowded. Don't wait, get there EARLY.

cant i move in some other day like aug 28th and not go into all that ???
or not bring anything and bring my luggages and move in the next day
are there really lines that go around the building??? i dont want to wait... is that the same each year?

what time does the dorm open? and what time should we get there?

I may just fly in a day early and get a hotel then because my flights on Sun. would get me there like, afternoonish.

try to get there on the move-in day. and early to boot, regardless of what time they say you're supposed to come in. because it will still be crowded later in the day.

also, you're gonna want to be there on whatever the move-in day is because there's a floor meeting and they tell you some important stuff. plus you get to meet all the people you'll be living with for the next year, and putting out a good first impression is important.

So if I move in at 1pm (technically) should I start standing in line at noon? Will most people be out of the streets and up in their rooms by then, or what?

This kinda sucks for the last half of the alphabet, b/c we only have 4 hours (Tischies) before we have to be somewhere at 5....

they dont check your last name so you can come whenever

let's cultivate this topic...get more sophs and experienced students to put something on the table....

best deal to go early? i'm a jersey boy so i'm gonna check in with one suitcase, and my laptop...the parents are gonna bring the rest later in the day...but what's the best time to show? 8:30 ish

Don't listen to the 'times according to the alphabet' stuff. Come early, early early or you'll be in line for hours. If they say it opens at 9, be there at 8. You'll sign in, get your key, then start to lug your stuff upstairs. You pull your car up in front of the dorm, unload it, then go park elsewhere. The police will not allow anyone to stay parked there. Make sure you have someone to stay with your pile of stuff outside as you make your trips up to the room. There will be lines for the trolleys and for the elevator. If you don't want to wait, ascremer, you're in trouble. Be patient! The other advantage of being there early is that you get to choose the best side of the room. ;)

so whys the line so big...getting the key, using the elevator/trolley or both. I mean i dont see how its so hard for them to give us the key and check-in. I understand the elevator part, but the if the wait is because of the first part it doesnt make sense. Also, if I can ferry the luggage up the stair myself and I get there about 9-10ish how long will it take me about to move everything in.

The line is big because there are hundreds of people trying to move in at once! I think that's pretty obvious. The elevators are small and slow. Going up several flights of stairs, in the heat, carrying junk isn't the best way to do it. Prepare for it to take a while and prepare to be stressed, but you'll survive. Everyone does.

yea...i have the benefit of being from jersey...so i think i'll be able to avoid most of the stress....i'm gonna come early with one suitcase, a laptop, and a back pack....the rest will come later in the day courtesy of the parents...and anything else during the week...the winter gear will come later.....to anyone who can afford a nearby hotel for 2 or 3 days...i advise the same if fiscally possible...i think this should work out well....<<<makes sense to me....but let me get some upperclass feedback....

heh matth, you underestimate lol. Im from texas and a XC runner, as long as im not the top floor i should be able to carry most of my belongings up the stairs so hopefully elevators wont be required.

How are those of you who are flying getting all your stuff there?

is it fair that your roommate who gets their first get to claim their desks, beds, and their side of things?
