From the stuff that I got for orientation it seems like I have to go to at least 3 places to check in (residence, benson, and IT building). Can anybody offer any strategies to make my wait in the lines a bit shorter?

I just kind of went wherever--worked out just fine. I checked into my room, got my computer and then went to the mailbox key. I waited the longest for my mailbox key.

What took longest for me was the computer, but even then the wait wasn't more than about 20 minutes (and that included going to all the stations and signing all the stuff I needed to sign). There wasn't a wait at all for my mailbox key (I forget. Is this where you get your student id as well?). And getting my room key was no problem either. And they had a ton of people helping people unload cars, so by the time I got my key (and, again, signed all the forms) my family and the people unloading had already gotten everything up to the room, and all I had to do was start unpacking.

The earlier you come , the better... in terms of parking that is. -- In regards to everything else, the two posters above put it perfectly.

I came Early (around 10), checked into my room, went to Benson, got my computer and then unpacked!

That seemed fast to me.

I've moved kids into 3 colleges and helped with a niece and a gf at 2 other schools. By far Wake had the best set up for move-in. I don't think we carried a thing--they had students at the curb to help unload and carry to the room. Parking didn't seem to be an issue--at least not compared to some other schools. I remember son went and picked up computer before his actual time slot as the place didn't look busy--worked out well.
