Move in Day

Does everyone move in on the same day?? I thought I read that
move in day was August 20th but then the Memorial Union thought that
different dorms have different days?? I am trying to make air/hotel reservations and am confused.

I copied the following from the IU-RPS website:

"The residence halls will open on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at 8 a.m. Residents should report directly to their assigned residence hall. Parking will be available that day in the lots adjacent to the residence halls. Dining services will also begin this date.

Residents who arrive after this date do not need to make any special arrangements. However, residents who need to move in before August 27 can sign up to arrive as early as Sunday, August 24, 2008. There is a $25 per day charge for checking-in before August 27. This will be billed to the student's bursar account. Limited "pay-as-you-go" food service will be available.

Students participating in the Intensive Freshman Seminar (IFS) will be allowed to move to their fall housing assignment on (date TBA).

Only students taking part in an IU program such as marching band, athletics, IU Beginnings, or international student orientation can move in before August 24. Students in these programs should make arrangements for arriving early with their sponsoring IU department."

Thank You Izzie!!! I had confused Indiana's move-in day with my other sons.
That mistake could have been very costly. The good news is now I'll be able
to get both of my boys into their dorms.

Idyll,

If you need hotel reservations for move-in, make them now!!! And be aware that many of the local accomodations will require more than a one night stay. Last year, the Hampton Inn had a 4-NIGHT MINIMUM! They said they were catering to the long distance OOS students/families.

4-night minimum?!!! That's crazy! You'd have to be coming from really far away to want to stay for four nights. I have reservations at the Holiday Inn Express for 2 nights for parent's weekend for a total of about $440. I haven't decided yet if we are going to use them. That seems like a lot of money.

I did hear at orientation that the Union is booked the night before move-in.

A 2-night minimum is pretty standard on football weekends and for move-in. If you can't find anything reasonable in Bloomington, there is a Holiday Inn Express in Martinsville (20 minutes up rt. 37) that was around $120/nt last year, including breakfast.

Now, if only my son could tell us when he wants to move into his apartment! I can't make our reservation until he decides.
