Official move in day is Wednesday the 26th but you can move in as early as Sunday the 23rd. Just curious how many students move in early and are there any advantages or disadvantages ? Thanks.

I would recommend moving in at least 1 day early. There is sooooo much traffic on the streets, no parking, and congestion in the dorms on move in day. You will save yourself atleast a couple hours moving in.

Early move in is definitely worth doing. As maxellis says, the congestion is REALLY bad on the official day. Another plus is that once you get your stuff moved into your room and arranged, you will be able to see what you still need to get (there will always be something you forgot!). You are more likely to find whatever it is at Target or BB&B the earlier you get there and before the huge rush on the 26th.

Other than early move in, any other tips/advice for freshman moving in?

I’m sure liking that part where weather.com shows 0% chance of rain on Monday in Bloomington. That will make move in day a bit easier. Do they tend to get it right for Bloomington?

^^^No more or less than anyplace else^^^

lsb–be prepared for the one way streets. If you are moving in on Wednesday some two way streets will be one way that day only.

Students living off campus are starting to show up now so that does make it a bit easier.

We’re doing move-in on Tuesday afternoon.

Moving in on Tuesday morning! Hope it’s not too congested…can’t wait!

Arriving tomorrow night after flying all day, hitting BB&Beyond and Target on Sunday, moving in on Monday, saying goodbye Monday evening, and going back to the hotel by myself to cry a few private tears until I fly home alone Tuesday morning. Should be an adventuresome few days. Good luck everyone.

Tulare,

Now that your trip to IU-B is over, you’ll have to tell us how it went, and what your daughter thinks about starting her first of four years at a place halfway across the country.

ElizaB,

Hope that you’ll share of bit of your experience also–although I realize you’ll be busy meeting new people, attending parties, and getting ready for school.

Tulare, Looking foward to your comments on the Kelley LLC.

Welcome week on the website looks great! Good luck to all! My son has applied for next year.

I’m back from a very successful move-in at IU on Monday. I can’t say enough good things about the Kelley LLC so far. There were several professors there to greet us, and they wandered the hallways throughout the day welcoming students and offering to help carry boxes and answer questions and such. They’ve assigned a different professor to each dorm floor to act as the adviser/mentor, and they also had many students on the KLLC Advisory Board there helping and greeting. After moving in, my daughter and I went to dinner before her mandatory Kelley LLC orientation. One of the professors happened to come into the restaurant and recognized my daughter as he walked by and stopped to talk to her. I’m so amazed, impressed and reassured that at a university as large as IU a student can have that level of personalized attention. Bloomington is a beautiful, charming town and the people cannot be nicer. I left her there and flew 2000 miles back home on Tuesday feeling confident that she’s in a fabulous place and will have an incredible life experience.

Tulare, that sounds incredible. If Kelley and RPS are able to keep it up, I’m sure students will be competing for spots in the LLC next year. I’m glad you liked IU and the town. I think you understand why so many IU grads hate to leave the place.

Evidently there were over 500 applications for 250 spots in the Kelley LLC this year, and I’m sure it will be even more popular next year. They said they are expanding the capacity each year for the next few years. And yes, I can definitely see why IU grads wouldn’t want to leave Bloomington. What a great town and community. I just hope my grad leaves in 4 years! She’s awfully far away from home.

It sounds good so far.

Maxellis, I wonder if you would have chose the Kelley LLC had it been available last year or would you still go for Central? Let me know what you are hearing as the semester is underway.

I probably would have choosen the Kelley LLC. Tulare probably knows much more about it than I do; I talked about it with some Kelley administrators in passing and they just told me what Tulare already has.
