As move-in day approaches, I'd like to ask a few questions about it during previous years...

Is all the furniture already there and set up when u arrive, or do you and your roommates have them arrange the beds and desks and closets to your tastes? In a triple, can you make it so that there is a single bed and a bunk bed instead of a bunk bed and a lofted bed, etc...?

I live in Beverly Cleary hall in unit 3. Its the non-highrise res hall behind unit 3. Since it has less ppl than the high rises, do i get shorter lines, or do I still have to wait in the hugantic lines with the rest of the unit 3?... and in the morning, at around 11 AM how long do you estimate I will be waiting in lines?

How did you pack your clothes and stuff? Did you put them in cardboard boxes and throw them away when u got to cal? or did you take suitcases and then hang the clothes and give the suitcase back to your parents to take home, or did you keep the suitcases?

What time do parents normally leave? lol, woot woot

Any other tips on moving in would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

BUMP. How about Mini suite unit 1? is the line going to be shorter?

1/ The furniture is already there and set up, but you can rearrange it to suit personal preferences. Keep in mind that the work order center is flooded with requests to fix broken light bulbs, missing bed rails, and clogged toilets, so a request to de-loft a bed is considered low-priority and can take an absurd amount of time to be completed (like six weeks).

2/ 11am seems pretty late; your wait could be anywhere from half an hour to two hours. You can use this as a time to get to know people in line next to you. After all, they’re stuck in line too.

3/ Most kids bring suitcases and then store them above their wardrobes. Even better are storage items that are easily compressible like duffel bags. You’ll want to keep them for when you move out, so cardboard boxes might not be the best way to go.

4/ Some parents sleep in their kids’ rooms the first night. Some pull up to the curb, throw their luggage out of the car, and then speed off. I’d suggest you find a happy medium. :)

The furniture is already in the room and arranged. You and your roommates can move things around to your liking, but are required to put every thing back in its original place upon move-out. I’d think you’d be stuck with one lofted and one bunk though since there really isn’t much space to change it.

BC is the best dorm! I waited in line for about 15 min–if that-- and I got there around 10:30 last year. Def not bad at all. There’s also a stairwell and you can use that to go faster since there are only 4 flights. The line to actually get your key in the volleyball courts sucks though because you have to fill out papers and it’s kind of slow.

I packed my stuff in a plastic drawer thing and hangers because I didn’t realize each person gets their own closet and drawers in BC. Both of my roommates brought their stuff in suitcases, unpacked, then put the empty suitcases atop their closets.

I grabbed lunch with my padres then sent them away after we bought some last minute things. Not much goes on on Saturday since you’re still waiting for the doubles to move-in. You can hang out with your roommates, but the “bonding” stuff really happens Sun and Mon.

Good luck!

I’m bringing like a little bin type of thing that can just fit under my bed, hopefully, for my clothes.

Does anybody have some dimensions of the closets and how high the bed is in a normal double?

Is it really so bad to bring cardboard boxes?

I’m thinking about bringing my extra stuff in cardboard boxes.

For sunday in Foothill do I go straight to the building I’m in (3) to get my key and check-in, or is there a big line somewhere for everyone in foothill? The move-in website isn’t very clear on where to go to check in.

Do most people move in early morning?

^ Yes, at least in my experience. It’s better to wait until the afternoon when the crowds die down, but if you have a$$hole roommates they may have already taken the beds/desks they wanted without discussing it first. Good to plan ahead with them!

wow, thanks for all of the replies, i appreciate it sooo much. I was asking about the single bed in a triple instead of a lofted bed because on the move-in day video on youtube some triple rooms had a single bed instead of a lofted bed.
