When do you think would be a good time to arrive on move in day? i think if you arrive at 8, it'll be too crowded...what do you guys think? noonish?

I'll get there earlier and stand in line. It's not as if I have anything planned for that day :)

i think ill be there noonish....just because i wake up later.

bowles people should try to get there early

I'm not in Bowles, but I'm curious...why should Bowlesmen get there early?

I am currently a second year RA in unit 3. From last years experience most people think going early will beat the rush. I would say go around 3pmish and you probably won't run into much traffic. Also, keep in mind if you move in early you'll be battling many other people to find a parking spot. Fortunately, this year berkeley set up move in day into two diff days, one for triples and another for doubles. Hope that helps.

by the way, moving in early has no advantage whatsoever. There will not be any activities until later that night and you won't be able to get your internet up until the day after.

It is a personal preference. Some people see advantages in moving in early, some people see that its the same, regardless. Thankfully, there is enough of both or else this world would be hell.

whoa...Kyle: Any advice for freshmen for move-in day?

For students that are living off campus, ie in apartments in Berkeley, can we participate in the activities that are put on by the Res Halls? Im just wondering what kinds of things there are for those living off campus to meet others in those types of settings.

For freshmen going into dorms: Bring some strong people with you.

On move in day last year I went early (a little before it started) and there were a lot of people waiting as well. Then we lined up to get our keys and then there was a HUGE line for the elevators. Me, my bro and a friend just took about 3 trips on the stairs each to haul up all my stuff and I was done before I would have gotten halfway through the line. =)

real quick before I go to dinner. I'm going to be an RA for ida sproul this coming year so if any of you are in Ida PM me! As for move in day, I'd bring a microwave and a small fridge, maybe a lamp too because you might want additional lighting. It depends what type of person you are but I have a rug on my floor to make it feel more like home. If anyone has any questions feel free to message me.

As for activities for students living off campus in apartments. As a freshmen you should be living in the dorms but if there is some exception most of the Welcome Week activities we planned are geared more towards community building within the buildings. There will be a couple "open" programs however. Hope that helps.

THanks, yeah I am one of the exceptions. Since Im from out of state and have significant financial need, I found a better deal on a private dorm vs the Cal Housing.

I'll bring the issue up to the RD. I'm sure you will be able to participate in the activities you just might have to do a little more digging to find where and when they are occurring.

So if I got a triple in Clark Kerr, should I go early since I don't want the top of the bunkbed. Or do they even have bunkbeds in CKC? I heard some rooms have 3 regular beds. I'm in building 4 btw. If anyone knows, please let me know.

I think i may just kinda go get my room in the morning then bring my stuff up later on in the day when there is less people trying to move in.

Positives for moving in early: can unpack earlier, meet people earlier, watch all the people stand in the long line you did, and choose which side of the bed you want.

Negatives: stand in the long line, battle for parking, wait around until evening when everyone is moved in.

yeah lyrical, i'm in your situation. i think one of the clark kerr rooms i saw had a bunk bed. so i have no idea how that is determined.

eiffelguy~

"I'm not in Bowles, but I'm curious...why should Bowlesmen get there early?"

Because Bowles only has quad rooms, which are split into winged singles and a central double. These are not assigned, just the Quad room, so ybowlesmen have to get there early to secure themselves one of the coveted singles in each room. I did not get contact information for any THREE of my roommates, so I don't kknow what and how the rooming situation will be. All I know is that I don't want to "settle" for a double if I have the opportunity to get a single, and a few hours waiting for a year's comfort doesn't sound too bad.
