move in question

Hi... we had our orientation day on Thursday..all went well. My daughter though is going to be joining the marching band and has to move in early for band camp. So, my question is, if she moves in 4 days before both of her other roommates arrive (if they aren't going to band camp, and I'm assuming she'll be tripled). Does she need to wait to unpack all that junk, which would be 4 days later until they get there and the room gets divided up? Or is the room pre-divided for them?

I believe Campus Res “pre-divides” the room in a general sense, but it’s up to her and her roommates to take it from there. If she’s there early, she should just be logical about how much space she takes up; they’ll work it out once everyone moves in.

(Yay band camp!)

Quick question, do those who are joining dance team also move in 4 days prior to freshman move-in day? I can only imagine that orientation II would collide with the schedule of band camp…Thank you!

I thought triples were gone in Stony Brook. I have seen the triple rooms decrease the last two years, when i came in four years ago the situation was insane. But nonetheless, the first person that comes into the room has the choice to take her favorite 1/3 of the room. This usually means that the two big drawers, 2 small drawers, 2 desktops, and the 2 closets will be divided among the three the fairest way possible

Triples still exist…but the University makes every effort to distribute residents to doubles by the end of first semester. The vast majority are.

As per Res Life, we only have 450 triples this year. So if my math is right, it’s nowhere near the “vast majority” the way it’s been the past few years.

Chris

Yup… my daughter is tripled. Oh well… I guess the room will seem awfully roomy and quiet once the detriple is done! ;-)

450 sounds outstanding.

BTW - I meant the “vast majority” are detripled by end of semester, not tripled to begin with.

Outstanding good or outstanding bad? :)

That’s WAY down from previous years. The incoming class in 2009 was nearly 100% tripled. We’ve cut our freshman class down to clear space.

Chris

I’ve been tripled too…it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal to me except that one of the room mates is someone I met on room bug and the other was simply added…so it may cause some conflict with de-tripling but I don’t foresee it being a huge problem and SBU does reimburse us for the living situation. :)

My cousin keeps asking me about college, and the move, and if it is even worth it. Well I got sick of saying it so I typed up an advice blog for her. It might help you out sometime. It is not finished but still could be helpful. Here is the link.
