Move in time/food plan

Can anyone tell me how they determine the freshman move in time? Any suggestions on the best food plan my daughter isn't a huge eater Thanks for any suggestions or help

As for the meal plan, select the one that your DD think might work and make a note of the deadline for changing it. She can try it for a little while and then change without penalty. But there is a deadline. Not sure the deadline is published yet for the Fall 2012 semester. Here’s the link:

Thanks for your help Linymom

Happy to help. My DD is going to be a junior at UD so feel free to ask whatever!

Just a word of caution to anyone coming from the north and planning on using Rt.95 south to get to UD on the Saturday of arrival day. Pleased be forewarned that it is mobbed on this Saturday, with students traveling south to multiple other schools, not just UD. When we brought our D to UD the first time it was crawling traffic from before the toll booths at the Delaware Memorial Bridge (we were coming from NJ) all the way to 95 and then down 95 to the first exit for UD. Vehicles were packed with college decals/stickers seen for multiple colleges to the south. It took us at least an hour for a ride that is at most 15 minutes with regular traffic. We had gotten to the bridge around 11:30 am. There are some complicated ways to avoid 95 but it would take me forever to describe them on this thread. So be prepared. Have fun.

I started out with the 15 meal/week this year, and never actually used all of it. So I switched to the 175 meal/semester which still left me with about 30 meals at the end of the semester. I think next semester I’m going to go for the most amount of points and least amount of meals, just because you run out of points pretty quickly depending on your eating habits.

Agree with Crider. My DD is going to go with the 10 meals and more points. She envisions herself grabbing something for breakfast rather than sitting for a full meal. We will see how it works out and make changes next semester if necessary.

We’re big believers in more points as my daughter’s dorm, job and department are right near Trabant.

Many students seem to prefer fewer meals / more points because they can get food wherever they are, and are less tied to the dining hall. Just keep in mind — the "math " doesn’t generally work and you WILL be running out of points part way through the semester, unless you skip a lot of meals. These high-point plans may make sense for you … but they are also a money maker for the food services vendor, who runs both the dining halls and the other food locations on campus. I encourage everyone who needs to watch a budget to make sure that getting most of your meals at the dining hall (which includes sack lunches/dinners by request and the continuous service Kent location on main campus) is not the best financial choice, since you have to purchase a plan anyway – and are going to pay a lot for it!
