Has anyone questioned the move in time for the students? The hours of 1-5 this Saturday and Sunday is such a short time for such a large amount of people to be migrating into the same buildings. I'm curious if anyone has asked if you can move in earlier in the day.

At orientation they said that is the time to sign in and pick up your key, you can move in till midnight for all they care. That’s just the times the office will be open to check-in.

Does everyone plan on checking in at 1pm? I am going to so that I can beat the crowd.

I am, but I bet there’s gunna be a crowd no matter what

Well folks… The lines for getting the key was not as bad as I expected. We waited about 15 minutes. Parking was not bad either. We parked in the Garage B and walked right across to the dorms. While my son’s room is small he has a great view of the lake and his other room mates were very nice. One from south Miami and the other two were from Clearwater.

It was a long day that went real fast. For those of you who haven’t made it to the campus, my advise is make a list and ensure you have everything. My S’s roommate forgot all his basic stuff such as contacts, toothbrush, shampoo… etc. He left them in Miami… This maybe a man thing, to wait until the last moment, lol…

We got there late, around 4:40 and they were taking some of the signs down. It was a little stressful but we got the keys right away. Happily surprised by the room, just seemed bigger than what we expected…and a whole lot nicer than the doubles from years ago with the bathroom down the hall. Great lake view, near pool and gym, good parking. Everyone seemed nice, sociable. All in all…impressive.

I guess we could of started moving in at 12pm. On the website it says one, but they had a sign up that said 12.
I arrived on campus at one and was lucky to get a parking spot close to my dorm.
Yes, the rooms are bigger than I expected them to be.

D moved in Wednesday with no line, but she was an early move-in for orientation. I was back at D’s dorm yesterday (Nike) around 11am and noticed there was a long line and people were already starting to move in.

D’s room was big too, we were surprised. She’s in a double. I flew home last night as she was getting ready to go with a bunch of girls to get sushi for dinner. She’ll be fine there, I know she’ll flourish, she already surrounded herself with a group of really nice girls from Florida, Virginia, and one other from New Jersey. She met them during orientation.

She loved the heat but hates how everywhere we go in Florida the air conditioning is pumped up REALLY HIGH. Something she needs to get used to. We stopped at the UCF bookstore to stock up on sweatshirts and sweatpants (UCF emblems, of course). She left those all at home because she heard it was HOT, so in New Jersey, HOT means you store all those items over the summer and never put them on!

Loved UCF, so clean, loved the fact that the campus is walkable with realitivity no streets to cross going from one end of the campus to the other. Everyone was super nice and the food was very good, we went to Knightaroos, Wackadoos (love that Wacky Wrap), Asian Fusion, and Subway (of course).

Setting up a class schedule was very stressful for D. She was in there for 2 hours (from 1-3). She had her “cheat sheet” but every class in mid-after she found she wanted was full so they helped her develop a schedule. That night I helped her swap out of a few classes. Her schedule for Fall isn’t too bad now but could use some tweaking over the Summer as one class for her major requires her to travel to the Rosen campus (the main campus classes were full). Another girl she met that is also taking the same class has a car and they agreed to commute, but I think it will be too much for them to travel back and forth, so hopefully she’ll get into the class on the main campus.

Summer she’ll be in class from Noon to 4pm. She wanted a class at 10am instead of 2pm but at least she wasn’t left with 8am classes.

Fall is Mon and Wed classes from 10:30 to 11:20, then 1:30-4:15pm (the 3-4:15pm class is at Rosen)
Tues and Thurs she has 1 class from 12-1:15pm
Fri is 10:30-11:20pm then 1:30-2:20pm

I’m sure your D will be able to make some changes before Fall as there are many students who have not yet had the orientation, there are more in July. If not, the Rosen Campus may be a good way for her to be around a busy hospitality area and see the other parts of Orlando. It really is nice over there as well. Glad to hear she adjusted easily, and yes…all the kids wear hoodies in Florida. When we first moved here we could not get over it. Then we quickly learned why.
