Move-In Times

im moving in on the 19th (im a mia) at around 8pm. do my parents need to pay for parking even if theyre just staying like 1 hr? should i just print a parking pass for a later date and just use that pass?

^ same question here...i'll be there after 6pm on the 19th...can i use the parking pass that is supposedly for the weekend

:) I'll be MIA tooooo. They do check permits at night (around 7pm-9pm), but I'm not too sure if they check before regular move-in starts. But to safe, you could buy one (I think it's $4 for half a day, $8 for the whole day and cheaper for less time). Or just have your parents park in the meters on campus (there are meters next to Sproul turnaround, which are the closet to the dorms). Also, you can park in front of wherever it is you are going to live and have someone sit and stare at your car, as you can't leave it unattended or you'll have it ticketed. :P

The RD of Hedrick sent me this email about parking though:
"You will need to pay for parking on the day you arrive since we only provide an exception for move in weekend. If you park in lot 11, you will see a machine where you can purchase parking while you unload your vehicle. It's new, and I don't know how it works, but I will see if I can get instructions from parking services so you will know how to use it once you arrive."

MIAs have a lot of free time, you only need to do one shift a day, I believe. But the rest of the time, you might have to help out with decorations on your floor (which is a whole lot of work). But don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to explore! The first Tuesday that you could move in, you'll have nothing to do. The next day, you'll have a mandatory meeting around noon or so and that's it, so you'll be free until move-in weekend starts. Have fun and come visit me in Hedrick 5N. ;)

do we buy the 4 dollar parkign passes at the lot?

I was wondering...does it matter if you move in a day LATE? Something came up and now, all the alternate times are filled. I'm supposed to move in 9/22 from 9-10....and I was wondering if it's all right to move in the next day instead...

keywon, i want to swap that time with you! but from what i'm reading, i'm going to assume that it's okay to move-in later.

i'm just curious to know if the parking structures are the same for all the moving days. if so, i can just change the day & time, but nothing else, right?

I have a couple questions as well. Last year, there wasn't a "housing pass;" so does that mean things may have changed this year? According to that, it seems that anytime after the assigned time will be ok.

Just a note for parking pass stuff, it only takes some very easy HTML editing (actually, it's really just switching out several characters) to change it.

They can't really check against the parking, but they can with the housing pass... sooo..?

x3ucla, I'm pretty sure that's the case since they assign the parking structure closest to your building.

How did people apply for Move In Assistant?

i think its too late, but i was emailed an application in july i believe from the resident director. if the res hall needs help they will email its inhabitants.

So this process was selective?

kinda...you had to submit an application...but for hedrick hall everyone who applied was accepted to become a mia so yeah

Housing pass? Did I miss something?

The page that you get from the housing site actually has two passes.

The top portion is the "Unloading Pass (Temporary Parking Permit) and the bottom portion is the "Move-In Pass."
