<p>Is there special move in parking set up on move in day?Anything near Russel?</p>
<p>A traffic flow pattern is set up by the campus police around each dorm. You follow the signs and are given a permit. You drive up to the drop off location at the dorm. You empty the car on the sidewalk and the arrival survival folks grab the stuff and bring it to the room. In order for this to work, you need to drop your kid and their stuff off and then move the car to the designated parking area. Everything needs to have a label with the name and room number on it to make sure nothing gets lost. Your kid will need to stop and check in with the RAs to get the key etc, so it’s good if you have a second person to follow the belongings.</p>
<p>where does the person who is driving end up parking the car? How long can it stay there?</p>
<p>DD lived in Thompson which is next to Russell. There are parking lots nearby which they will direct you to for parking. Not sure if there was a time limit but if there was, I don’t remember it being a problem. There was a limit you could park in the drop off area.</p>
<p>There’s a driveway off Academy where you will be directed for Russell drop off. As you leave the drop off area you take a left, still on the driveway, and forty yards later you’re in the parking lot. During the week I believe the lot is reserved for UDel staff, but we never had a problem parking there during drop off or pick up. (Pick up takes considerably longer … no blue-shirted volunteers around to help carry stuff!)</p>
<p>Just went to UDel yesterday to get a feel of the layout of the area and precisely try to figure out the logistics of the parking for drop-off. Daughter will be a Freshman and she is in Harrington A and I didn’t see any specific parking for Harrington but did see the Russell parking lot and also the Perkins parking garage who backs into the Harrington complex. Reading what the-mom said, I am wondering how they will do it for Harrington since it doesn’t look like there is a driveway that you can flow through, unless you leave the stuff at the curb and move along. Any Harrington parents around that can provide any input?</p>
<p>It is strictly curbside drop and go for all the dorms. On move in day there will be plenty of signs and people around to direct you. No need to worry about those logistics!</p>
<p>The_mom… So regardless which dorm its’ curbside drop and go. Got it… Thanks for the info. Also, this year they are splitting the drop-offs by Delaware and Maryland folks first and then after 12 noon for the rest. I’ve heard from others that basically say show up as early as possible regardless.</p>
<p>We’re OOS and had an afternoon drop off. We drove down the night before and moved her in the morning, not afternoon. There isn’t any penalty for showing up earlier than suggested.</p>

<p>What is the recommendation as far as packing?? Do we put everything in large contractor bags or bins/boxes? Obviously some things are easier to put in bags, such as pillows and linens and I can always squeeze them in to the overhead carrier, as opposed to boxes/bins. Just curious what the experienced ones have done in the past and what works best. We’ll label everything, of course…</p>
<p>Stand by the drop-off area and you will see every conceivable container and moving device. So suit yourself. A couple things to keep in mind are (a) it will be UDel volunteers transporting stuff from car to room; and (b) there is very little storage space in each room so you may have to carry some containers home … bins, suitcases, etc.</p>
<p>I agree with NewHope. We used suitcases, boxes, big duffle bags, laundry baskets, and plastic containers. Most of these items we brought home because there really is no place to put them except under the bed. Last year we bought plastic containers with sliding drawers from the Container Store and they were really useful for storing food, cleaning supplies, etc. A hand cart would be useful, too.</p>
<p>Remember to save the backs of your poor arrival survival team members! If you’re having a hard time lifting whatever into your car, it’s going to be pretty hard for them to lug it up 3 flights of stairs! Why not bake an extra batch of cookies or bring them a bag of apples!</p>
<p>So… the car is packed and I can still see out the back window :-). We plan to leave by noon so we are down by 3 (probably an hour earlier if we can manage it, the car is full so it’s not like I can add anything else in unless we remove something). I forgot to mail in the application for a bank account at WSFS and we never did it at Delaworld so that is the one stop we absolutely have to make before heading to campus. I plan to go to one of the regular branches in College Square or University Plaza shopping centers to open the account there since it will be easier to park (or at least cheaper). I would like to head over and get books from DBE after that, but my son is balking, since the car is full and he says we should go Friday. If we have extra time before we have to go move in, we’ll stop by the Hilton and drop off some stuff like my computer and bag.</p>
<p>There is apparently a parent’s orientation at different times on Saturday at each dorm complex. My son was emailed a link to this “fall Delaworld” (I guess fall starts early in Delaware) with info on activities after move-in.</p>

<p>The car is packed but I have to finish packing my stuff for the car in what little room we have left. We are leaving from the Chicago area at 5:30 am and plan to drive a little less than 12 hours tomorrow. We will drive the last 2 hours on Sat. morning. Ugh! <p>D’s roomie reported that the beds in their room are stuck to the floor due to the renovation (new floors)…hoping it’s just wax and that some strong people can move them! (this is in Russell)</p>
