Move out???

HI Everyone - just learning how to navigate this new format on CC....

I know it is VERY early to start thinking about move out, but we ocd moms need to plan!

I know that companies come on campus, supply boxes, tape, etc. but what about large items? My S has plastic bins for under the bed, some furniture, stacking draws, etc. What do you do with those? Does he need to find a storage company or do the businesses that come on campus take care of large items, too? I know I have heard students sharing storage areas for the summer, but how do they transport everything if they are too young to rent a car?

There are a couple of threads on the Tulane Parents FB group about this. Most people said they used Summertime Storage. Also some people mentioned Elmwood Storage, Secure Student Storage and College Boxes. I assume they all have website so you can check out what services they offer.

This format is driving me nuts. I have to sign in every time and I used to be able to come right to the Tulane page and now I have to go through a bunch of steps…

And… didn’t we just move them in??? I can’t even think about move out yet!

On a happy note, I just booked a trip down to NOLA for the end of February. I actually had a hard time finding a hotel for Friday Feb 28th (we are going to have to change hotels for the last night - Hampton Inn was booked). Apparently, even though Mardi Gras doesn’t start until March 4th, hotels are booking up the weekend before. Has any one ever stayed at the Hilton New Orleans on St Charles in the business district? I booked it for one night (had to pre-pay due to the high demand time period). It looks nice, but DH is nervous about staying in the Business District (kind of desolate at night).

You will have a great time in NOLA for Mardi Gras! But it actually ends on March 4th, as Fat Tuesday is the last big hurrah before Lent starts on Ash Wednesday. Here’s a schedule of parades - <a href=“2024 Mardi Gras Parade Schedule | Mardi Gras New Orleans”>http://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/schedule.html</a></p>

We often stay in the Business district and have always enjoyed it. That Hilton is only a couple blocks from Canal St, so definitely not desolate.

The two weekends leading up to Mardi Gras day, especially the weekend before and the big parade weekends. Carnival Season actually starts January 6th- 12th Night. You were lucky to get a hotel! We stay in the Business District all the time. You are on the Parade Route! Great location! It will NOT be desolate during MG! Just be careful about being on the right side of Canal before parades start. It’s pretty much impossible to cross until they are over. I’ll be down there too! If you are there Wednesday the 26 make sure to catch the NYX parade! I ride in it and I’m on the title float.

I didn’t realize that the parades started in February. I thought that everything started on March 4th and that all the festivities would overlap with Spring Break (which is why my son was not planning on coming home). We just planned the trip for the end of Feb so that we could spend a few days with him. Oh well, lucky us… we get to see DS and experience a little bit of Mardi Gras.
And Dolphin, we are not arriving till almost midnight on the 26th so I wont get to see you on the float (not that I would recognize you any way :))

LOL, no probably not especially since we are masked! But you will be there for all the good parades. Muses on Thursday is not to be missed. There are parades all day Saturday and Sunday too. You’ll have a great time!
