Moved: Chance me for transfer! (And I'll chance you back)

College: top 25 LAC (according to Forbes), but top 40 according to U.S. News
Prospective Sophomore
Major: Economics
GPA: 3.9
ECs: Investment Club, Men’s Club Rugby, Alternative theater troupe, Social Business Venture Fund
ACT: 32
HS: 3.15
^Few Notes:

  1. I went to a nationally-ranked private school with a grade deflation problem (average Vanderbilt admitted GPA from my high school was something like a 3.5; plus, I was admitted to my current college ED which has an average enrolled student ACT of 30 and median GPA of 3.6)
  2. I took a bunch of honors courses (that weren’t weighted, unfortunately)
  3. My grades dropped in high school from freshman year to sophomore year, but they’ve been steadily rising since then, with a big jump my first semester of college

Recs: very solid, professors I asked seemed genuinely saddened by my news and offered to talk to me if I wanted (got As in both their classes and participated a lot).

Essays: superb, went through a number of drafts on each of them and more or less poured my soul into the words

Schools:
Washington University in St. Louis
Vanderbilt University
Northwestern University (especially hopeful about this one because I spent a lot of time there growing up)
University of Michigan

I was just rejected by Michigan, so I’m wondering if I still have a chance at the other 3, or if that news is a good indicator that more rejections are to come.

Apologies for the really long post, but I just wanted to make sure I gave you guys all the facts in hopes of getting the most accurate answer I possibly can from CC.

I think you have a really good chance at Vanderbilt. Sorry to hear about Michigan, but I’ve found that it’s definitely harder at state schools as they don’t seem to be as holistic in their evaluations as private schools. Northwestern and WUSTL have fairly low transfer acceptance rates, but it’s worth a shot given your strong grades and ACT score. Good luck!
