Hello, I am a hopeful applicant with an issue. Back in October when I applied, I submitted my SSASR the following November to be led to an incomplete webpage after I linked it to my account. Finding this odd, I revisited the page a few days later and approached the sample issue and assumed this was just the webpage and proceeded to play the waiting game.
Well, when decisions came out this Friday, I had to wait until Monday to make my GatorLink account - I had not done so previously - only to discover my SSASR had not successfully linked. I called and inquired about the issue and to my luck, the webpage was finally successful in linkage and I must wait until March 27 for the much more competitive decision-making.
I called to tell an Admissions Officer about my particular issue, if anything could be done, but she told me there were five emails sent out (none of which I received, just housing emails) to remind us about our SSASR so there was nothing she would do.
Anyway, can I survive rhe second circuit? All my peers go into Fall and our stats are all similar. Here’s mine:
Gpa: 3.81 (uw) , 5.24 (w) (top 2%; #7)
ACT: 30
Female (just in case)
Academics: Taken+Passed 8 APs (Chem, World, Psych, Calc, Stats, Bio, APUSH, Gov); 1 AICE (Marine), 7 Dual Enrollments
Volunteering: 400+ hours (Hospital, School, Petting Zoo therapy for autistics)
Employment: 16hrs/week 3rd job ive gotten over time; 8 hrs/week Babysitting (little siblings)
Leadership: Historian (SNHS) and Treasurer (Fashion Club)
Essay: Importance of making connections with others and overcoming social/imaginary barriers (to thus be united)
Etc: Danced for ten years but chose to work, AP Scholar with Distinction (3.5+ avg score) , Helped in the founding of several clubs, Highest ranked African American in class (not sure if it means anything)
My principal and teachers are also willing to contact UF for me, in case good word of me will be useful; we’ll see if we go through with that. Yet, I just know I can be a great baby gator!
Thank you!
P.S. this happened to a peer of mine (nearly similar grades) excect he received the SSASR emails (but ignored them)
Bump. In case you cannot answer the question directly but know of others who have been admitted after the priority decision, such information would be helpful as well, thank you.
What I am reading is that you missed the priority deadline (doesn’t matter why; everyone has an excuse), but are very fortunate that UF still considers late applications on a space-available basis. However, you still want UF to accept you right now, regardless of whether space is available. That’s not going to happen. For one thing, it would set a terrible precedent. Everyone would want special treatment and the deadlines would become meaningless. Also, what if the yield is unexpectedly high this year? Wouldn’t it be unfair to the current students if UF just kept cramming extra kids into the already crowded dorms and classrooms?
So you wait. Your stats are good. The only negative I see is trying to get away with characterizing watching your siblings as “employment.” If there are openings you have a better chance that most, I would think.
I see you have misunderstood my post, LawMom6.
I was not requesting an earlier decision date. I am just wondering if I would be able to gain admission, even past the priority deadline. The university did not fail to stress the competitiveness of the spots left so I am simply asking what I could do, if anything, to increase my chances; such as a recommendation.
Also, when I visited UF, the woman who gave us an orientation actually encouraged us to write things like babysitting; its very common for students to spend time helping out at home and sacrifice oppurtunities for other extra cirriculars so I find your comment as hypersensitive.
Ok, I thought when you said “I must wait until March 27” and that you called to ask if anything could be done in your particular case, it meant that you were trying to get a response before March 27. As for the babysitting, that is an activity certainly worth mentioning, but by no means is it employment. Again, I think your stats are very good, you are not afraid of challenging yourself with difficult classes, you have tons of volunteering and employment, so if there is a space, I would think you would be an excellent candidate. In fact, my comment about the babysitting is really because your app looks so good without it, the padding seemed unnecessary.
