We moved last summer to US from India. My son did his final IGCSE and got all straight As but the high school which initially accepted the final IGCSE grades now used his internal non standard grades from his old high school in india during his 9th/10th grade and left out the final IGCSE grades. My son's GPA has been dented from being above 4 something to 3.9 something. Has anyone known of such a situation or know of any schools in US that accept final IGCSE grades? I have even shown the letter from Cambridge International Examinations that suggests to take their grades and that they are internationally evaluated in the UK and are an accurate indicator of performance than the internal grades that different schools evaluate differently but they are adamant in accepting it.

moved to US public high school -not accepting IGCSE grades from Cambridge International Examinations

Each school can have its own policy when it comes to grading and converting grades from another school when there is a transfer. My daughter also transferred when she was junior. It took few months and many meetings before her grades were converted to everyone’s satisfaction. At one point when there was an impasse, the school suggested that they would send both school’s transcripts so her colleges would have more information. The problem we had was if her new school were to take all of her honors courses from her old school then her GPA would have been higher than their Val, who has been going to the school since first grade.

Where does 3.9 place your son ranking wise? What about 4.0? If GPA puts him above 5% then I wouldn’t worry about it. He will have SAT/ACT to support his GPA.

I would get the official transcripts to send to the colleges along with the US high school’s and explain the situation. Just because the high school doesn’t accept them doesn’t mean the colleges won’t accept them.

Rampre… we are on the same situation as you described, moved from India and did IGCSE 2 year course and my son scored all A’s (GPA of 4) on 10th but the local school exams during 9th brought his overall GPA to 3.5. So how did you manage at the end for your son, did the universities accepted the 10th grade result and matched it for 9th also? We approached WES and they also certified it as 2 year course and to use 10th grade board exam only!
