I recommend Full Metal Jacket.
It's a gritty, edgy and humorous movie basically subdivided into two parts, the first the story of a group of young recruits at the Marine Training Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina, the other occuring in Hue City, Vietnam, where.

The Shawshank Redemption is my all time favorite movie. If you haven't seen it already, you should definitely take the time to watch it. It's on TV all the time. The movie traces the hardships and triumphs of a man sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

And if you want to see a great psychological thriller, watch Memento.

I enjoy films which portray the main character(s) overcoming a great obstacle(s) in his/her life, in order to accomplish his/her end goal. Here's a short list of my favorites:

Coach Carter
October Sky
Miracle
The Rookie
Friday Night Lights

OMG, October Sky was so touching. I was almost in tears. What other movies make people cry? I think Saving Private Ryan did, I forgot. sniff

Hunt for the Red October and Patriot Games. I love Tom Clancy. The movie Gettysburg is also incredibly good. Long, but good. The Bourne series is really good too :)

I like "Collateral" with Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. It is not a groundbreaking film, but I look for entertainment and good flow. A big reason why I liked it is because Tom Cruise's character, Vincent, was very direct and to the point. Even while he was falling apart due to the stress of his job and life, he used his skills to get the job done. The end of the movie was a bit unrealistic, but that is how movies are these days.

But there are too many other movies to name that are a lot better than "Collateral."

Go see Hitch this weekend- its hilarious with Will Smith and Kevin James (the guy from king of queens). I really liked it, i might even see it again.

Good Movies with friends: Minority Report, Run Lola Run, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Matchstick Men, Big Fish, Better Luck Tomorrow, Trainspotting, Donnie Darko, Punch-Drunk Love, Amelie, Election (the beginning may turn some off but just make sure that you sit through the whole thing. one of the sharpest satires of recent times.), Pleasantville, LA Confidential, Fight Club, Zoolander, This is Spinal Tap.

Movies to watch alone (content, slowness, length or violence may make them inappropriate with others): Magnolia, Maria Full of Grace, Lost in Translation, 21 Grams, Dark City, City of God, A Clockwork Orange, The Royal Tenenbaums, Requiem for a Dream, Far From Heaven, Dr Stangelove, The Pianist, Muholland Drive, Pulp Fiction, Reservior Dogs, Thirteen, Rear Window, American Beauty

the thomas crown afair, the skulls, The talented mr ripley, pirates of the carribean, train spotting, pulp fiction, gangs of new york, good fellas, supertroopers (caw git it), half-baked, finding forrester, secret window, dazed and confused, identity, and saw

I watched Hitch. It's a good movie to see with a gf or bf or potential gf or bf. The ending is kinda slow and some of the characters aren't convincing as lovers. When you watch it, make sure you think it will disappoint you so that when it doesn't you'll love it even more than had you been neutral! :)
