Hi, I have a situation:
I am currently a junior in high school. When I was younger, my parents got a divorce, and my mom got custody of me and my brother. After she remarried, we moved across the country with her and my new step dad. Over the last 3 years, I have been having difficulty dealing with my mom for the same reasons which my dad had difficulty with her and the reason for their divorce. After 3 years, I’ve just about had it with her and I fear that if I stay with her much longer the conflicts will have more serious negative effects on me, as I have already begun to lose my appetite and feel down and occasionally depressed. I know that for this type of situation, many will say that I should try to just deal with her and repair our relationship, but I have been trying at that for a very long time now and we have made zero progress, as the only times which we can both be content in the house together is when we aren’t in the same room or talking to each other, completely avoiding all contact.
At this point I have talked things over with my dad, step mom, and grandma, who I would like to go live with in their home across the country, as I feel that this will make me much happier and I feel that my life will be made exponentially easier without this unnecessary conflict and fighting.
My dilemma is this: How will moving affect my college acceptance? My grades and extra-curriculars are solid enough to get into most places I would like to go, but it is obvious to me that colleges will not miss the fact that I changed schools, and I don’t want to negatively impact my acceptances based on this factor. So should I move? Or would it be better for me in the long run to just wait until I graduate high school and move after graduation?
Sorry for how long that was, thank you so much for reading. Any and all help is much appreciated.
