I'm currently a freshman journalism major at Arizona State University and I have already come to the conclusion that the school is not for me. I currently have a 3.31 GPA which after the spring semester will most likely be significantly higher. I am also signed up for ASU online summer classes. Taking 13 possibly more units over the summer. ASU like I said is not my cup of tea: the education is sub par, the campus set up is inconvenient, some campuses are very underfunded, only a few members of the staff actually care etc. Now I am planning to finish out the spring and summer semesters at ASU then move on to a CC for a semester then transfer. Would this be a smart move to make? Pro's Cons?

“Obviously,” Stoops said, “Arizona State has turned into a JC, and we’re a four-year college.”

This is not a good move. Yes, your grades aren’t great if you want to transfer somewhere else, but I really don’t see how going to a community college would help. They’re not low enough for you to be able to say that you weren’t ready for college, so dropping out of ASU could make you look flaky ans unsure of yourself. In general, you should stick it out at ASU and transfer after your sophomore year. If you can get your GPA above 3.7, and get good test scores, professor recommendations and extracurricular activities, then you’d have a decent shot at transferring to a different place like Vanderbilt, Emory, Reed or one of the Claremont Colleges. Hope this helps you.

oh wow thanks for the reply. So I should really stay? What if I significantly raise my GPA by the end of the summer semester then move to a CC? Even then? I’m interested in say transferring to a school like the University of San Francisco or Loyola Marymount.
