My daughter was very disappointed to end up on the Vern. She just started and has made a friend on Foggy Bottom whose roommate didn’t show up. She’s like to swap rooms. Any advice on how she could do this? She can get the approval to switch from Housing, but I’m wondering about the actual move. I’m a little over a hundred miles away, so it would be a long trip for me to come help her. Plus I am extremely nervous about driving in downtown DC. I know she can use the carts at GW, but don’t know how she can get the stuff to the other campus. Any advice would be appreciated. BTW, she doesn’t have a driver’s license, so she can’t rent a car for sure.
She may be able to move her things gradually via the bus to foggy bottom. Or, you could hire a moving company to help her out. Even tough traffic is tricky, its definitely possible for movers to park in front of the dorm.
If she doesn’t have too much stuff, she could also use Uber/Lyft and pack everything into the car.
Have her check with the Resident Assistant in her dorm on the Vern, or in the foggy bottom dorm she is moving to. There was a group offering to help people move for $150 on move-in day, they posted on the GW 2020 FB page. I bet the RAs would know about them or other possible options to get help. good luck!
Thank you! All good suggestions. I will have her check on each. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that.
I second Uber/Lyft. If you guys only had one car-full to move her in, she shouldn’t have much more than that to move to Foggy.
