I'm coming from Wisconsin and because of financial and schedule problems, my parents won't be accompanying me. Has anyone else moved in alone before? Any advice? Thanks. x)

I'm in the same situation, and as it's my first year too I can't really offer advice, but maybe what we're doing could be of help?

We shipped some boxes by UPS, there were four boxes, each at or under 30 lbs and it cost $72 total. I used the Bed Bath and Beyond thing where we can pick it up in NYC and will be buying the microwave and minifridge there. I'm taking taking a lot of my stuff in my big hiking/backpacking backpack and then a regular one for the plane too. (I find it easier to use the backpack over a suitcase)

really not a big deal. most freshman have their parents help them move in, but after that no one really does. the only thing your missing out on is having an extra set of hands to carry things.

Is that so?

sorry..."only a few" have their parents help them move in after freshman year. happy?

what is the bed bath and beyond thing?? you can buy things here and pick it up in nyc??

You can always ask people that are already moved in to help.

Also check out collegeboxes.com and madpackers.com they do door to door delivery and summer storage.

I'm commuting but I'll be there to help my friend move in, so I'm sure there are going to be people around there who would be willing to help.
