Moving in date for Honors students

Does anyone know the move in date for honors students for the Fall 2011 semester? Thanks

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the move-in date is the same. I know that Gemstone freshmen who do Gems Camp move in a few days earlier than the regular day for that and I think I remember being told that marching band members can move in early, but as for honors in general, I think it is the same date.

Last year Honors (and I think a few other specific programs) moved in a day before everyone else. We moved in the Thursday before classes, while the regular move-in date for freshmen was the Friday before. So maybe it will be the same with the Thursday/Friday thing?

Yeah, I checked past years and it has been a day early for the other honors programs.

All freshmen (whether general admission, Honors, or Scholars) will move in on the Saturday (the 27th), according to ResLife.

I hope that is incorrect fresh because it is hard enough getting around campus when they did it as previous yrs of 2 days. I would hate to think of the congestion if they did it in 1 day.

I think I remember reading that you were going to do Gemstone, so you will most likely be moving in a few days early this year.

I talked to someone from the Department of Resident Life this past Tuesday, and they told me that all freshman students move in on the Saturday. When I asked to make sure that Honors and Scholars students weren’t moving in sooner, the person I talked to said that ALL freshman students – regardless of program – were moving in on that Saturday.

I’m not sure if they’ll change their minds at all (it will be insane with so many thousands of students moving in to the same area of campus at the same time), but that’s the official current plan.

I was just told that certain honors programs will move in on August 24th and rest of freshman will move in on August 27th.

33dmjjm – Out of curiosity, who did you talk to? I just talked to someone in ResLife (again), who said that Honors/Gemstone/Scholars/etc. will all move in on the 27th as well.

Since they haven’t sent out mailings yet (I’d presume), or put the information on their website, it is possible that they haven’t fully decided yet, I’d guess. I just know that the several times I’ve talked to someone in their office, I’ve been told all freshman students move in on the Saturday (even when I clarify and ask about the different programs).

I talked to someone from the Gemstone program

Wow my plans for August 27th just became finalized, do nothing, do not leave Commons, do not under any circumstances drive anywhere.

33dmjjm - do you happen to know when University Honors will move in? Given the below I am assuming 8/27 (although I had already booked hotel for the earlier date)

The August 24th date is only for Gemstone students doing Gems Camp. They move in the 24th and do the camp until the morning of the 26th, if my memory serves me correctly. I might have fun just watching all the other freshmen move in when it is all crowded, especially some of my friends in different programs.

Honors always moves in the day before. Gemstone moves in several days before. I’m not sure why they say they’re changing it now.

(And Scholars always moves in the day before, when Honors does. Hopefully they change their minds before August…)

The letter that those in the Scholars program received last week indicated that Scholars Service day is Friday August 26th. I would therefore assume that Scholars would be allowed to move in prior to Service Day (possibly on Thursday the 25th?).

That was last year’s date, I believe. It’s on Monday, August 29 this year. ([College Park Scholars](http://scholars.umd.edu/serviceday/))

Thanks for the link. Some sloppy work at UMD because the letter received last week contains a significant typo (ie mentions the 26th as Service Day).
