…Or three or four power taps. There were four duplex outlets in my room last year (eight total then), two were switch controlled so we just put the lamp on that. We had a power strip on every other outlet.

Then again, we probably had too many electronics for our own good anyway…but since all of the outlets were hard to get to, I kept things like phone chargers permanently plugged in, taking up more outlets.

What’s with people saying don’t bring things like hair dryers or straighteners and buying them there?

If you’re a girl who uses things like this, it’s a huge waste of money to buy a second one, when all of these things can fit into a tiny extra bag.
If you can bring your own from home, why spend an extra $100-200? (I’m fine with my cheap-o conair straightener, but I know girls who have hair that won’t straighten unless they use an expensive chi)

Same with a toothbrush- you might not be able to go to a store right away, and it would be gross if you had to skip that just because you didn’t bring one.
Seriously, you can fit it in your pants pocket (with a case) if you really don’t want to use the space that such a tiny object takes up.

Does the average CC user have massive amounts of money to throw away?
I bought doubles of maybe three things when I went to school, and this is only because my brother moved into my room so I couldn’t take the things with me that I already owned. (TV, garbage can, Lamp)

But really, what you need is:
Clothes (about a week of shirts/pants/whatever, but at least 3 weeks of socks and underwear)
Sweatshirts/jacket (depends on area of course)
Flip-flops, sneakers
Clothes for going out (depends on how often you do and what you wear)
Headphones
Whatever electronics you need (girls usually a TV, DVD player, and computer, plus iPod/phone/whatever, guys usually want video games, but don’t bring more than one console and be THAT guy.)
Febreeze (CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH)
Sham-wow or eqivalent (We didn’t think we’d need these, but my roommates mother insisted, and they saved our lives, or at least the stench of our room, several times)
Bookbag
Whatever you absolutely need for your appearance/hygeine
External Hard Drive
Cable to connect your computer to your TV (trust me on this one)
Bedding/Matress pad
garbage can
lamp
mini-fridge
husband pillows/collapsable chairs for people to sit on.
Laundry bag
power strip

After a year at school, I think I could comfortably live on that, in addition to a few other items obtained there (plastic cups, silverware/plates from dining hall), I probably forgot a few small things, but nothing completely necessary.
