What do you recommend bringing to Cornell? Also, do you recommend getting a U-haul, or should my stuff fit in a SUV?

I would just fill an SUV. You will probably bring too much of some stuff (books, DVDs, etc) and too little of other things (forgetting things like painter's tape for your walls and maybe a set of extra sheets so you don't have to do laundry everytime you change them). Just remember, whatever you haul up to your room in August eventually must be hauled out in May, usually simultaneously with hundreds of other people.... and sometimes in the rain. You can always have stuff shipped in or bought from Target if you really need to.

lol are you planning to bring furniture, munited?

no...i was just wondering...yeah a u-haul does seem kind of extreme

oh, and does clara dickson have elevators, because I am on the 4th floor and that could be kind of annoying without them

Yes, it has one elevator for the entire building. So, unless you have something that is absolutely impossible to be carried up the stairs, it's really unlikely that you'll end up using it. There are tons of volunteers and Orientation Leaders (like myself!) who will carry everything up in smaller trips. It sounds too good to be true, but with all the help, you'll have your stuff waiting outside your room for you in about 20 minutes. My family and I were AMAZED at how smoothly everything went during move-in day.

You definitely DON'T need a U-haul. Even the prissiest, Japiest girls don't bring that much stuff.

"japiest"?

not to mention the fact that i dont belive you're allowed to have a u-haul or anything much bigger than a SUV on move in day

my stuff fit in my mom's Honda Pilot, but we couldn't bring my brother because I had too much stuff, what a shame ;).

Do people living in the townhouses tend to bring extra furniture ... or is the unit full enough with the supplied furniture? And does the kitchen have a dishwasher? I am assuming not. I know there is no microwave ...

U-Hauls are not allowed. They will make you go back home.

cnp - there's no real need to bring extra furniture. You might want your own little chair in the living room area if you watch movies much, but that's about it. everything else is provided. Also, no dishwasher or microwave or toaster oven.

Bring a lot of cold weather clothing. We had a mild winter this year, but nevertheless, freshmen tend to underestimate how cold it can get up here. (As an example, the day I returned to Ithaca after winter break during my freshman year, it was -17 degrees outside).

actually, you don't really need much winter clothing fall semester. it's spring semester that's the misnomer. just bring scarves. and good boots with traction and a weatherproof umbrella.

"japiest" referred to JAP which means Jewish American Princess...you can interpret that any way you wish

volunteers and orientation leaders that help us move-in! How sweet is that!

for people that snowboard/ski and wanted to do it alot before they went to cornell... how often did you actually end up going? because i want to know if i should bring mine since i do want to go.. or will i end up not really going since the weekends are so busy, etc.

CMB - there are alot of people who go. I never really did it before coming to Cornell, but my gf did a bit and we ended up going several times. We didn't have cars, but there were busses that went right from campus to Greek Peak mountain. A season pass for Cornell students is like $120 - which is crazy low since it cost me like $45 each time i went with my gf since i didn't have a pass. Well worth the season pass. There are plenty of people who go and you'll likely have a few friends who ski/snowboard as well.

Even if you ski or snowboard already, consider signing up for skiing/snowboarding as your winter PE class. I believe that even when taken as a class, you can get in a lot of free skiing/snowboarding time.
