Moving in--how did it go?!!

How did the move-in weekend go for everyone? D's in a large triple, but they are waiting for a loft to be delivered..... It was supposed to come Sunday, but apparently not enough people showed up to work on Sunday, so they are behind in their deliveries. Being pretty OCD, it's driving D crazy not to have her room all "set", but in general, her apt in St. Mary's is a palace, compared to her triple in Denton last year.

My brother was supposed to move in on Friday, but we got bored and moved some of his stuff in on Thursday--got the room arranged and rug put in with his roommate. By moving in in the afternoon a day early, we completely avoided the rush (he lives on Elkton 8), so it was pretty painless. He brought a little stuff later that night, and just brought his clothes the next morning. His room's smaller than mine was in Denton, but it's still pretty good. He brought a couple small ottomans for storage and seating.

I'm finally getting started on packing for Spain. It's actually a lot easier than packing for school because I only can bring a couple bags.

When do your classes start in Sevilla?

I start my Intensive Spanish language class on Monday, and my university classes start September 29. I leave at 10pm today.

^Have fun in Spain!

Our son's move-in on Thursday went pretty well. He is in a double at Wicomico. Their beds were bunked because there is not enough room in there for 2 beds on the floor, 2 desks and 2 dressers. So they decided later in the afternoon to go with lofts. First thing Friday morning, he and the roommate went to purchase lofts, with the expectation that they would be set up later that day. Friday came and went with no set-up. Nor on Saturday (due to the football game I guess). We haven't heard from him since Saturday night so I don't know if the loft people ever came.

D's roommate is having problems with the loft people too. They purchased/ordered the loft at a booth on Friday, it was supposed to be delivered Sundaym and wasn't. D called them on Monday (since roommate didn't think to do so....and it's D in the bottom bunk)....they said that not enough people had showed up for work on Sunday, so they were behind. They said it would be delivered Monday or Tuesday. Didn't come. D has the phone number (the booths are no longer there)....and plans to call every day. Late yesterday, they said they are still working to get them all delivered (but stopped telling her a day to expect it). I looked at the reslife site, and it had all kinds of info about ordering the loft earlier in the summer, so it would be there when you moved in. However, most people have not SEEN their new room, or known what kind of space it has (or does not).....how could you order in advance? Arg. Hopefully they'll get their act together soon.

p.s. wow--those Wicomico rooms must be small. In Denton, all the furniture would fit on the floor in the doubles without bunking, just not a lot of empty floor space beyond it. The lofts really help to make things seem more spacious in the room.

Yes, Wicomico rooms are incredibly small. I had suggested to S that he order the loft in advance, but he didn't want to. Until the roommate's mom suggested it.

The only problem DS had moving in on Thursday (Scholars moved in that day) was they overrode the elevators. 1 only went from 1-5 and the other from 5-8, of course the elevators are soo small that only 1 kid and their stuff could fit in at a time. Luckily we finished moving in b4 the elevator broke...yep it broke for floors 5-8 (he is on the 7th)

Centerville all of the stuff fit on the floor also without a loft, very little floor room too!

What's strange astro is when DS moved in on Thursday the tents set up outside you could lease on the spot for the kids who had not reserved already and take it up to your room...DS didn't, but the neighbor across the hall did exactly that.

Yeah, they reserved one at the tent, but the people were going to come and put it up and move the bed. I don't know if by Friday they even had the option to pick it up themselves....or maybe the girls didn't want to try to do it themselves? D could handle it, but I think the other roommates are more than a foot shorter than her, and not the "sturdy woman" she is! Anyway, I promised myself I wasn't going to ask either about that, or about finalizing her start date at her job.....she's made it pretty clear that she's tired of me bugging her about it :) .... but that's my JOB!

In classic helicopter-mode, I did send an email to the company, asking when they expected to get caught up at UMD (it's a company that works out of a bunch of colleges). No word yet.

I agree with the girls that it would be the best room set-up to have the add'l loft, but at some point it may become a fight to just get their $$ back. Argh.

S's move in went without a hitch (Wicomico). He's on the second floor just inside the front entrance. I thought it was funny how little we unloaded and how much others hauled into those tiny rooms. S seems to have everything he needs, however. He's coming home with his roommate for one night on Friday for a home cooked meal and to pick up a few books.

Sons move in went great. Other than the 45 minute wait to exit on to route 1.Everything went smooth and he he settled right in. He is in Centerville on the 3rd floor. His only complaint is that he seems to be hungry all the time. Looks like I will have to up the terp bucks

finisher, make sure your son makes friends with lots of girls in his dorm....when it comes to the focus dates at the diners (use 'em or lose 'em on meal points), they're the ones that will have lots of extra $$ and will be glad to treat the starving boys!

I guess our DS isn't eating....I must admit I brought 2 large bins of snacks for him on move in day (pop-tarts, goldfish, beef jerky etc). Or he is already friends with the girls...I know he had a fight and broke up for the umpteenth time with his gf and immediately went to the girls side of the dorm to talk about it ;).

I also laughed at some of the kids and the things they brought...must admit I am a horrible mom, never thought of sending him with wet swifters, than again knowing him, I am sure the box would return unopened in MAY
