I would love to hear from others just how you plan to get your son's or daughter's belongings to UD? Do you rent a uhaul? Does it fit in an SUV? Do you bring some and buy some after dropping first load? I realize each kid will have what they think they need but I am curious as to what people are thinking. This is my first and unlike my D, I commuted to college.

Last year was my first child’s freshman year. We fit everything in an SUV and my husbands sedan. We brought more than he needed, and ended up bringing some things back home with us that day. There were also several things he kept that he never ended up using. This time around we will bring less, and I’m pretty sure we’ll fit it all in the SUV.

We ended up having to make two trips with the SUV last year because with our family of four and the refrigerator, there wasn’t enough room. We can’t do two trips this year, so my daughter is going to have to back more efficiently. I also think we are going to pack a large box of miscellaneous stuff and ship it to Trabant.

My plan is to pack everything into the SUV and a waterproof bag attached to the hitch-haul. We opted for the micro-fridge rental just to avoid the effort of hauling and carrying it into the room. Worst case, I have to install the X-Cargo carrier on the roof…

We’ll probably be asked to bring a few more items down on Parent’s Weekend.

We fit it all in mini-van, honestly they bring WAY more than they can fit in the rooms(especially girls). As tshe became more efficient packer, and returned after freshman year, ALOT was left in our garage.

Believe it or not, after sophomore year, before she could move into house rental, we fit it ALL into a Toyota Camry. Though we did have to “donate” the microwave and a storage bin at the side of the dumpster, which was claimed within 5 minutes of doing so.
