We're taking our son to move into his dorm at O'Donnell next week. Any questions out there that I might be able to look for answers to?

Welcome to the MU family!
I hope he has a great experience.
In one year’s time we will be going from three at home to 0. Dreading it!!!

cpeltz, keeping you in our prayers as you make the move. enjoy your free time. he’ll be home before you know it. Good luck!

Actually, cpeltz, if you could tell us what the O’Donnell dorm is like, ie, layout, bathroom types, communal or suite, cafeteria, proximity to classrooms, student union, rec center, that would be great to hear about. Also, how you got there, plane, car, train, would be great to hear about, too.

Hope you have a great trip! Have fun!

O’D has communal bathrooms. Two blocks from rec center, three 1/2 from union. Anywhere from 3 to 7 blocks from classes.

Son has one of two triples in OD, which is great - big rooms and private baths. I’m not sure yet how much he’s interacting with other guys on the dorm (part of mom’s trying to let go), but know he and the roomies are doing well! About 5 minutes from AMU and classrooms, the whole school is really more compact than you’d imagine.

Montegut

O’D is on 18th between Wisconsin Ave (aka “the Av”) and Wells St. It was the primary dorm for freshman women when I attended MU in the 70s. The academic heart of the campus is between 11th and 16th streets on the opposite side of Wisconsin Ave. As a point of reference Schroeder Hall is on 13th between Wisconsin and Wells and McCormick Hall is at the corner of 16th and Wisconsin and the main entrance to the Mall is at 13th and Wisconsin.

Could someone do a similar comparison for Carpenter? That is the engineering dorm, which is where son would prefer to live, but he doesn’t want to be too far from the action. Is it situated well for classes and student life?

Talked to my sons and son’s fiancee who lived in Carpenter. Carpenter is on 11th, the other end of campus from O’D but really not far from most buildings if you look at the description of campus by eadad.
Both of my sons and son’s fiancee said they would not recommend Carpenter for a freshman as it is very hard to meet people and it is like a tomb most nights.
They all suggested Abbotsford, or Straz (the Honors dorm) if he wants a quieter dorm and then O’D if he wants to meet alot of people.
