Moving in

This may be premature, but does anyone know when the freshman move in dates for fall 2013 would be? I'm supposed to be going to a country concert at the end of the summer that I have been anticipating for months, so I hope it's not on the same weekend!!

Anyone have any idea?

I think I read on their calendar that it is Aug 23rd.

Uh oh…
Isn’t it usually a weekend though? Like two to three days?

Aug 23-25th

Freshman move in day is 1-2 days before regular move in day. As I recall you move in on Thursday or Friday and classes start the following Monday. You really don’t do anything important those days, but I guess it would be kind of awkward to miss meeting your roommate and all the people in your dorm.

Well could I just do the 24th or 25th instead of the 23rd? That would work out fine! Granted I would be tired but I would be able to make it haha

UCONN usually has freshmen move in early and they have a special program for them before the other classes move in. I wouldn’t want to miss it as you learn how to set up all your accounts online and can buy books before others. That can be a zoo when all the other students arrive. They also had a big party for freshmen to get to know each other when my daughter went. However if your concert is at night and you can get back to campus it would be fine.

True. I should probably be there. :\
The concert starts around 4 pm I think and then we won’t be out until really late. Since I live ~1.5 hours away from UConn I definitely wouldn’t get back there that night.

I guess I’ll just decide as the date approaches and as I get more information.

You should be ordering your books ahead of time to make sure they don’t run out of stock. I would advise checking co-op prices against Amazon as they tend to jack up the prices.

Setting up the accounts takes literally 5 minutes and they should get you instructions on how to do it yourself. The only problem I can foresee is getting your room and mailbox keys and “checking in” to your dorm. They have kind of an informal check in desk on the first day that streamlines this process, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be a problem if you told your roommate you’ll be arriving late. You don’t meet your TA until you get to campus but they should be reasonably available to catch you up if you feel behind on anything.

I don’t know about UConn specifically but I know for my older daughter who attends the University of Maryland, they tell the kids not to order the books until after they attend their first class to make sure that the books listed are the books actually utilized by the professor teaching their class. Also, she found that renting the books is significantly cheaper than buying the books.
