hi all - we just returned from dropping S off at gilchrist. we flew to Tally on tues from NYC with seven checked in bags and did some shopping when we were there to fill in. returned home last night (friday). we were were busy the entire time.
S has a nice bright room but small as it has a bay window. beds were bunked he sent a text to his roommate who was not arriving until fri and they agreed no bunks. it was a challenge but he got a floor plan that works. you are not allowed to remove furniture ----but we did put s's drawers under the bed. he cant use them as they didnt fit on vertical. instead he bought a smaller plastic drawer set for under the bed. after this tweek the room came together. (so it may be something to consider) It was interesting to see they many different room layouts in gilchrist and it seemed everyone was trying to determine the best layout without bunks.
Be sure to walk around the tables at the union as every day there are different vendors , groups and clubs represented . the students are at the tables are a wealth of info.

We got D moved into Gilchrist last night! I agree about the different rooms. She is on the 5th floor, and as the top floor, the roofline and the dormer windows create some unusually shaped rooms. Her's is an L shape, and roomie called on Wed saying there was no way there was room to unbunk the beds. With a measuring tape first, and some creative moving of furniture (the dressers were in the bathroom for a time) we found a way to get the beds both on the floor and room for all of the furniture. She has a 4th floor room in Gilchrist for fall that we got a peak at and it is much larger with more options for furniture placement, so we just have to get through the next 6 weeks. I think they bunked the beds to clean, and we kept hearing about how everyone found the beds bunked.

She has already commented that she will never want to have to leave Tally and FSU!

Hope we can all try to get together for Fall move in or for Parent's weekend.
