The official move in days for incoming freshmen are:

"Last name beginning A–L Saturday, August 29, 2009
9 a.m.–5:30 p.m.

Last name beginning M–Z Sunday, August 30, 2009
9 a.m.–5:30 p.m. "

I’m sure these are going to be crunch days. And that doesn’t leave too much time to mill around Boston before classes start. But on the BU website it also says:

"If travel arrangements necessitate that you arrive to move in prior to your scheduled move-in date, you may do so on Wednesday, August 26; Thursday, August 27; or Friday, August 28—between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. only. The earliest date you may move into your residence assignment is Wednesday, August 26, 2009. "

How strict are they about travel arrangement “necessitating” that someone move in a few days early? I don’t really have a travel restriction but I would like to move in a few days early so I can used to the campus and avoid the rush of people moving in. Will they want actual proof that I have to move in early because of travel arrangements, or is my word enough?

awesome thanks.

Ill likely move in when a couple of my friends move in. Probably thursday. On wednesday you run the risk of being like the only person there for a couple of days…which is really bad.

hahah no proof necessary, u just change your move-in date online.

Ehhh I don’t think they’re very strict about it. But you do have to confirm that you’re moving in on those dates. I’m an RA and we had to turn away people who tried to move in a few days early. Call Housing and check it out. Though gmailblows is right…it might be kinda lonely if you move in really early. The only people on campus are those who stayed over the summer. And no freshmen.

My friends a returning (now fresh) sophomore…and I have a friend in my class going too. The one returning said he will give me an inside tour of boston and the campus so I want to move in when he does.
I also dont want to show up on sat. or sun. cuz everyone and their mothers (and fathers) will be there. Resources (people helping) will be scarce :)

Ok that sounds good. Maybe I’ll just go Friday to avoid the rush, and I’ll make sure I call and confirm it before I show up with all my stuff haha. I’d hate to be all ready to go and then get turned away.

What is the move-in situation for students going to the orientation on August 26th? Do we find a place to stay off-campus until our official move-in day, or just stay in the dorms throughout orientation?

for people going to the last orientation you move into your dorm then. Since you are already registered for orientation, they know you’re coming early and have your room ready first.

Well, then surely it can’t be that empty in the dorms. I figure last orientation is the most popular since people get to avoid having to pay for airfare back and forth for going to an earlier orientation.

nah, most people like the earlier orientations cuz they are paranoid about getting the exact class schedule they want. The last orientation usually is people that live internationally and/or can’t afford to make the trip twice

Last August we moved our D in on Friday, and it was a snap. In and out in about 3 hours (plus extra shopping time). Not crowded, and no problem getting a bin to move in with. It was incredibly easy. Move in early if you can (she is in Warren).

absolutely. i moved in the last day my freshman year and it literally took hours just waiting in line for elevators. move in early, but i wouldn’t do it the 1st day just because you’ll be depressed if no one’s on your floor and you don’t know anyone around yet.
