I took a look at the virtual room tour for a double, but had a few questions about the room and about moving-in:

01. I understand we have different move-in dates by college, but how did you guys move-in? How do you guys plan on moving-in?

I live about 1.5~2 hours away from Santa Cruz, so my mom offered to help drive me and move-in to my dorm. Do students move-in by themselves? I don't know if it would be weird if my mom helps me out, ahaha. xD

Can we drive up next to College 9 dorms to move our stuff in? Or are there no parking space available to do so?

02. The beds..
- Are the beds normally lifted up like that? How tall is it? Can I fit a lot of stuff under it?

03. Since the closet is wide open, I'm guessing most students use a curtain or towel of some sort to cover their personal belongings.
- How wide is it?
- Are the drawers inside provided for?
- What would you recommend to help organize our belongings into the closet (i.e. clothing, private or locked-items, etc)?

04. Any items other than those listed in the housing packet that came about our college, that you would recommend?

05. Is the dorm room we are assigned for the entire year or the quarter only? Can we choose to dorm for only a quarter or two, then move out to nearby apartments?

1: You’ll get an assigned move-in time. You’ll get to park next to the dorms. You’ll definitely need help because you only get a half hour slot to unload.

2: Yes. You can even fit a minifridge under there.

3: Drawers are provided. No idea of the width or what to suggest though, I’ve never lived in a double.

5: It’s for the whole year, unless you request to move. Transfer requests go through fairly often but you have to have a good reason. It’s highly unlikely you’d be able to move to the apartments. In fact, I suggest you don’t. A solid year of dorm life will cement your social circle. Don’t **** that up by moving.

After unloading, where can we park our cars - in case we need to organize more, or something? Do we keep the same roommates throughout the year as well?

There are a few lots around campus that can be used. The east remote lot should be open with frequent buses running to and from it. Also there’s the parking lots near the crown/merrill apartments that go relatively unused.

You’ll keep the same roommates unless one chooses to leave. :P

If you’re at C9, you’ll basically drive up and kinda wait in a line of cars. Once it’s your turn, they will allow you to park in a certain “unloading” area near the dorms, where you have the chance to get all the stuff out of your van. Once you finish doing that, you have to park your van in the east remote lot and then take a bus back to the dorm.
