How did it go for everyone? Any good stories to tell?

Organized chaos, that somehow seemed to work. It didn’t help that I had to take a placement test right in the middle of my move in time :P

But overall I’m happy, … I like my location, I like my view, I like my room and I like my roommate … I even took my folks to the Diner and “bought” them lunch … :)

It went really smoothly. We got there, and drove past the drop-off point looking for the end of the line. We ended up in a parking lot and the guy there told us to start unloading, because then a golf cart would take all our stuff up to the dorm area. So we did that, and I went in and checked in and everything. Then it only took 2 minutes to get the elevator. All in all, it took just a half hour to unload everything from the car and get it up to the room! I was prepared for it to be 10x worse.

Move- In was remarkably organized. For a school as big as Maryland, my husband and I were pleasantly surprised at how well it went. Lines were not that long - moving belongings from car to sidewalk was not bad. Only negative was that there weren’t many carts so we took all of son’s things up without one.

FWIW, one thing that I would recommend buying is a foldable dolly cart. Lowe’s, Wal-mart, KMart, etc sell them for 20-30 bucks. It is a life saver, especially at MD because they seem to never have enough of those carts.

DS just moved back today (was at summer training for AF until 6 pm last night). Can’t count on both of my hands how many bags of food I sent with him because he is now living off campus…GIANT PEAPOD here we come!

OBTW Giant grocery stores, for those that are not familiar with this area actually deliver groceries to UMDCP. If your child is in Leonardtown this works really well, because the 1st 6 weeks delivery fee is waived. What the kids traditionally do is open new Giant account when they pass that marker. Figure it out, even with 4 kids, they can aalmost make it throughout the yr without ever paying for it because semesters are only 15 weeks. (2 kids per semester open a Giant account). Additionally, when they open the card for the 1st time, sometimes they give bonuses, i.e. $15 off the order.

DS’s move-in went well. They had driving carts to get them from the parking lot to the dorm, which was great because it was a bit of a walk. His roommates are great, suite is very nice…a huge upgrade from last year in Easton. One thing we found both years was that moving in late in the day (Friday both years) was a breeze…seemed like it went smoother than it would with the crush of people early in the day.
