Moving into a Different Dorm Before Next Semester

Hi! I was wondering if it is possible to change dorms this late in the semester (for convenience reasons instead of roommate ones). I have an application almost ready to be sent, but I just want to make sure. Would it be possible to move into special interest housing or is it too late? I really want to move into BEST Hall because of the environment for studying (and it'll be closer to all my classes), but I know there would have to be openings for me to fit into since there's probably a waiting list, or maybe I would need a person to trade rooms with. Are there generally available rooms for freshman girls there? Do you know if people change majors or get kicked out or somwhing? Anyone want to trade rooms with me, lol?

But also, is it a good idea to switch rooms at this time? Should I just stay on Cook/Douglass? Idk what to do honestly, so I'd appreciate some advice.

I think you should call housing and ask them these questions. I also think if your life and your education will improve by switching then go ahead and do it. But what are you going to do next year and the year after?? Are you going to switch half way through the year because of your classes?? Rutgers is a big school and it comes with a lot of pluses and minuses and the inconvenience of having classes all over the university is one of them. Good luck!!

Lol, it’s not that I’m always going to switch where I live, it’s that I’m a pharmacy major with like all of my classes on Busch and I live on the campus farthest from there.

mytwo is right: having classes far from your housing assignment is one of the (big) disadvantages of Rutgers. You can call housing and ask to switch; I’m not sure what they would say, but I’m sure we’d all be interested in their reply.

The bigger problem is that every year, you will have to enter the housing lottery, and it’s a real crapshoot as to what you will get. If you or a friend gets a good number, you’re fine, but if you all get 8,000, you won’t have much choice about your room: you will have to take whatever is available and it might not be the most convenient choice.

Regarding living far from your classes, last year my son lived on C/D and all of his classes were on Livingston. The best number in his group was 2000+. It just happens sometimes.

Yeah, I’m not too excited about the Rutgers housing lottery process (I’ve heard horror stories XD)…

I hope I’ll be able to manage like your son. :)

Oh, and I emailed asking about BEST Hall and this was a generic reply:

According to our records, you have submitted a room change application for the Fall 2012 term. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate your request at this time; however, additional spaces may become available as the semester moves forward.Your application will be kept on file and we will continue to process room changes as spaces become available (based on your specific requests.)

There was more that they said, but it was mainly just about who to call and whatnot. I guess I have to wait for people to want to move out or something. XD (Anyone want to ofer me their room, lol? Just kidding…)

Well it sounds like they are putting you on a list. Maybe you’ll get lucky.

I hope so… if anyone at BEST wants to switch/knows they’re switching majors/whatever and has a girl’s room available at BEST…PM me and let me know…
