I have no clue how I would move into my dorm. I see that the university gives me the basic furniture pieces such as the bed and desk but can I bring in my own? For example I want to bring in an extra shelf for storage. Can I do that or depending on the university they’ll provide me with some extra pieces for my dorm? My friend went to a university and I see she has an extra shelf next to her desk but it matches the university’s furniture so that’s why I wonder if they provided that for her upon request. I want to lift my bed high, kind of like a bunk bed but with no bottom bunk so I can put storage underneath, but how do I do that? Any additional information would be helpful! Thanks!
This is very specific to the college you are attending. Every college has it’s own rules about what it does/does not provide and what you can or cannot do to your room. Your best best is to contact the Residential Living Office at the college in question.
Check the housing site of your college. Lots have some kind of move in guide that tells you about whether or not you can loft your bed. Some rent you lofting kits and some make you buy them from certain places. Some existing beds can be raised high enough to put dresser under. Really depends on school and sometimes the dorm.
In general you can’t remove furniture but you can add a bookcase or side table but you wouldn’t bring your own bed or desk. Doubtful you’ll be able to install shelves on wall. Again housing page should have info on rooms and maybe pictures. If in doubt call housing and ask.
I would suggest moving your stuff in first, and then seeing if you need additional shelves…you need to have a place to put them.
