Hey, I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some solid advice on moving from out of state. I currently live in NJ and I plan on attending BU (Boston University). Can anyone who has made an out-of-state move to a university (or just anyone at all) please advise me?

(If this helps, I plan on studying at the College of Arts and Sciences but I’m not yet sure which dorm I want.)

uhhh advise you on what? just pack up your stuff and go!

Convenience! Which way, if you have gone through the same/a similar process, did you find it best or if there was anything you wish you knew before the move.

im from nj and made the same move. the one thing i wish i had known: take the tappan zee bridge and not the gw bridge, and boston has a lot of one-way streets so take a gps.

Thank you, Ali! That’s the kind of help I was looking for did you ship anything ahead?

@kunformig, My advice is don’t pack up your entire room and bring it with you to college - the dorms are TINY. This may seem obvious but you won’t believe how many people overpack and then complain about the lack of space in their room.
Bring a few summer clothes, but mostly winter clothes. The way I packed is - don’t pack more stuff than you can fit in your car (so, don’t ship anything ahead…)
hope that’s helpful.

It is! Thank you May I ask which freshman dorm you stayed in?

i did not ship anything ahead of time-just packed it all up in my car and then bought some things once i got to boston. there’s a staples and bed bath and beyond right down the street.

As a freshmen, I’m in Warren in a double. But I packed really minimally (but all the essentials) so I have enough space to feel comfortable in my room. Plus it helps that my roommate is neat too :)
