Moving Into Dorms

I'll be moving into the Commons on 8/23 - any upperclassmen have any advice or suggestions for move-in day? I've heard a few people say it's pretty crazy that day but others have said it's not that bad. At NSC they said people start waiting in line in their cars at 5 or 6 a.m. that day waiting for the dorms to open.

People wait in their cars at 5 or 6 am? *** lol.

I’ve never heard the people wait in their cars deal.

DO arrive early though. When I moved into the commons as a freshman two years ago me and my parents spent the night before in a hotel, and then got to the dorms around 7:30 or 8. It seemed to get the busiest around 10 or so. It will be a madhouse for a few days, but I really didn’t think it was too bad. If you really want to avoid all the students and parents move in a couple of days later. Otherwise, just prepare to be around a lot of people moving a lot of stuff.

Get there EARLY if you want to move in the first day! And, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT park for longer than you are allowed to. They WILL tow and it is really expensive to get your car back!!! Good luck and gig 'em!

ABSOLUTELY do not over park, or park into area you are not suppose to. Last year, we spend few days with S2 since he is OOS. We saw many cars tow, ticketed etc. When we took the bus tour of the campus, we even saw towing in the remote area where a lot of parking space still was available. We also see towing into the night as well. We think it was kind of mean spirit giving TAMU is such a friendly campus. If you are not sure, ask before parking or have someone always stay with the car just in case.

TAMU is a friendly campus - but follow rules and park in designated spots - not causing problems for others keeps everyone happy.
