Moving out?

How do you convince your parents to move out? I mean i can afford it by getting a job on campus and such. Also its shown that students who live on campus do better ( it was somewhere on the uc website). What are some legit reasons for moving out?

More independence is a good reason. You can also say that you have the right to do so as an adult who can make his/her own choices.

If you can afford it, do it! Your parents will thank you when they realize how much they’re saving on their water, electricity, and gas bills.

Oh, and as for you? Freedom. Total freedom. Just make sure to tie and gag the pesky RA before you indulge in all sorts of debauchery! Don’t forget to use protection!

Edit: I meant suncreen. Get your minds out of the gutter!

Hahha! I’m only turning 20 this month. And man if I use to excuse of freedom to my parents they would flip out ( conservative af especially since i’m a girl) @BurntCorpse‌

All the more reason to be out and about on your own. There’s no reason for your parents to dictate what you can and cannot do. You’re an adult and you should be treated as such.

Tell them that you want to utilize your time to study and not waste time driving to school and back home. Also, tell them that you would like to experience COLLEGE life and living on campus would contribute to a full college experience. Find ways to guilt trip them! LOL. j/k but I think it’s important to live away from parents and to experience life! You can’t always live with them and they can’t always keep you at home. You will grow up so much and perhaps who knows, you might want to move back home b/c you miss them. LOL

@WhiteTiger84‌ So true! Those are the reasons I was gonna use too haha except guilt trip them saying i’ll have labs late and need to study/intern. Plus I live 25-30 mins away ( 45 mins cuz of really bad traffic). Thanks tho!

I just told my parents that I want the traditional college experience by not living at home. Haha. Just simply that :stuck_out_tongue: sweet taste of freedom.

@ocnative‌

My mom would prefer for me to stay at home, but I told her that I have to have that college experience. She’s OK with it.

I guess I’ll just visit her on the weekends or something.

Hahha lucky! You’ll enjoy it for sure. especially since from high school when everyone was moving out, we were at home @-) @Cayton‌

@Mik194‌

Just try and make the case to your parents that the college experience is fun, but also very important. Remember, college is supposed to be the best 4(I guess it’s 2 for transfers, lol) years of your life.

I thought about dorming with other kids, but having gone through basic training in the Army, I never, ever want to live with a kid my age.

I’ve seen more buttcracks than a pornstar has. Male buttcracks. If that isn’t enough to put you off from dorming, I don’t know what will.

Who knows? Maybe UCLA has shower stalls or something? You’re bound to see another man’s buttcrack nonetheless. It’s not like your room mate is buttcrackless…

Edit: I sincerely apologize for the horrible images I have put in your minds

@BurntCorpse‌

lmao

I believe the UCs give you some choice as to what kind of people you want to dorm with.

@Cayton‌

I dont think there’s a buttcrackless person you can dorm with. I’ll make sure to put that down in my preference box though.

@BurntCorpse‌

Oh, dear. :expressionless:

Well, you can always try and get a dorm by yourself, but I think it’s very difficult, if not impossible.

@Cayton

For UCLA, I hear that most transfer students who live on campus will be assigned to triple rooms. Funnnnn.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve heard as well. It’s tough to get a single or double. Mostly everyone gets stuck in triples. I’ve noticed at UCLA the price for some of the singles is really high. I’m 22 so idk if it’d be considered odd for me to dorm. Do they stick transfers with other upper division kids?

@Zalrons‌
Hey man! Congrats on UCLA. Are you officially going there or still waiting out on Cal? :slight_smile:

I would think that upperclass men don’t get stuck dorming with fresh or soph. That would seriously suck.

@ocnative‌

Woot. :|

@Zalrons‌

Nothing wrong with being dorming at the age of 22, and I believe UCLA gives you some choice as to what kind of people you will dorm with.

@ocnative, thanks! And congrats to you as well! I hope you get into Berkeley too!

I’ve already submitted my SIR to LA :smiley: And yeah, I’m hoping I don’t get placed with freshmen/sophomores. You still leaning towards Berkeley?

@cayton, Awesome. Thanks man!
