Moving to college far away?

I'm from South Florida, but will be starting NYU in the fall. My family has ruled out driving up for a multitude of reasons, the most being there isn't really parking near most of the NYU dorms and driving in the city is just a major hassle. Has anyone done a move like this before that can offer me advice on how to go about getting my stuff to the city? Thanks!

Check with the NYU admissions office. I’m sure you are not the first! The school should have resources for you to contact. Good luck, congratulations, and enjoy college!

Check with the dorm or mail center what date they will start receiving boxes (Aug. or Sept.)

Inquire if they accept both UPS and USPO packages

Once you receive your mail address from the college, box up your things, mail ~10 days ahead of desired arrival time. Be sure to have an inventory of each box, and insure each box.

Fly to college, trek to mail center/dorm, pick up boxes (ask if they lend dollies to wheel the boxes)

Fly+Shipping

i know you said your family doesn’t want to drive, but you might want to reconsider that if it’s mainly cause of parking. when i went to an open house at NYU last year they told us that they actually put roadblocks on the streets around the dorms so that people can park there while they move in. if you still don’t want to drive up after that, i’d just say wait to buy most of your stuff until you get there and have your parents ship what you need from home a couple days into the semester.
