Sorry if this is a repeat topic, I am new. My son is applying to colleges within the WUE system but I, his mother, and possibly his father will be moving to the same state as our son, around that same time he starts college. Will that mess up his WUE status, can he get instate tuition the next year or at least keep the WUE? I may move to another WUE state so that shouldn’t mess up his status, should it?
It might mess it up.
I think it will only mess it up if you obtain residence status (a good thing). It will depend on the state you move to and how hard it is to become a resident for tuition purposes. If one parent stays in the WUE state, why would there be a problem?
We both plan to move but are divorced and lots of variables.
It sounds like you don’t know which school your son is going to nor which state(s) the parents are going to be in. This makes it hard to get direct answers. However, if you move from one WUE state to another, I would assume you could keep the WUE tuition rate.
When you have locked down some of the variables and know where some of the people involved are going to be, you can ask the schools directly.
Many schools are very suspect that someone new to the state to obtain in-state tuition. You should be able to find information about in-state tuition from the school. Alternatively, you may maintain in-state tuition where you live now that would not require relocating. Also check ciommunity college options to obtain instate tuition or consider a liberal arts college.
