Hey guys - I’m interested in IU Kelly School of Business and their MPA Program at their Indianapolis Campus. Their Indianapolis campus is where the big research hospital is…IU medical center, etc.

Kelley School of Business’ accounting program at Indy is supposed to be ranked top 10 in the country, and the big 4 acc. firms recruit there.

The avg GPA is around 3.5 - mine is a 3.33 overall and 3.57 major (business admin.) right now.
I’m 80% sure I’m going to get a 4.0 this semester which will push my GPA up to a 3.41.

I’m sure IU-Indy’s MPA program is pretty competitive.

What are some ways I can boost my chances to get in? I still have 1 year and a half until I graduate with my B.S. in Accounting. Obviously I’m going to need to pull off A’s and B’s (mostly A’s) in all my accounting classes, and have a pretty good GMAT score (assuming 600+).

I’ll be 24 when I apply… They don’t have a work experience requirement because most of the people there are goiing to school so they can sit for the CPA exam. That will be great because I don’t have much full-time work experience (1 year after high school + part-time jobs). I just got my first internship, but it’s not in accounting, it’s in marketing/sales.

How should I plan this out? I’ll graduate after the Summer of 08… so basically 1 and a half years from now. This is what I’m thinking:

By August 2007 I think I should take the GMATs…

Get recommendations by Aug-Dec. 2007.

Fill out application and get transcripts sent to them by January 2008 + recommendations.

Wait patiently to hear my acceptance/rejection.

An MPA will look good to a recruiter from the big 4, right? Especially if I’m able to pass the CPA exam? They didn’t have statistics on their website, but said that virtually all students pass the CPA exam, and most students that graduated with their MPA started at avg. of 45-50K with a 1-10,000 signing bonus.
Since the work experience isn’t required, I think this looks like the best fit for me. (I don’t think work experience is required for most grad schools MPA programs.) Also, Indy is only 2 hours away from where I live in Indiana.

Would it help or hurt that I got one of my degrees (A.S. in BA) from IU’s Ft. Wayne Campus? My B.S. in Accounting will be from Indiana Wesleyan University - a regionally accredited, private Christian University.

Thanks again.
