MPA, MPP, MA (Political science)

Hi, I'm a junior political science major at American University, and I'm considering applying for the BA/Msomething program here. The only problem is that I can't really decide between the three programs offered because I don't know too much about what distinguishes them.

I like politics. I know that the MPP is rather quantitatively based, and I'm not sure that's where I want to go. At the same time, however, the MPA seems like too much administration and not enough politics, while the MA in polisci seems like too much science and not enough politics. I'm leaning towards the MPA with a concentration on politics and campaigning, but I'm not sure. In addition, what are the future prospects of having these degrees? I'm planning on either law school after that (lots of schooling!) or something in government (like up on the Hill or something).

And finally, how do these programs at American compare to similar programs around the country, academics/reputation?

Thanks in advance.

bump?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I understand your concern...

I recently applied to both MPA and MPP programs. I even applied to American's MPP program. I ultimately decided to attend UDelaware's MPA program (my alma mater)

I think it's best to visit the the program and talk with an advisor. They are very helpful with explaining the differences between the various programs. You should also keep in mind the particular skills you would like to develop and go from there.
