I am currently an Undergrad student in NY majoring in Urban Studies and Minoring in Urban Studies: Cities and Social Medicine. I graduate next year with a 2.8 GPA (not that great I know). I want to do my masters in either Public Health or Health Administration. What are my chances of getting into a masters program with my grades? What should I do to maximize my chances of getting into a Masters Program. I am also taking a gap year before applying to a Masters Program.
Not great. Especially not to the types of MPH programs that will actually maximize your career potential in the field (as opposed to taking your money without necessarily affecting your marketability or future salary).
You say you’re considering a gap year - good! Consider, actually, taking several years between undergrad and grad school working within the field. MPH programs tend to value work experience within public health, and putting a couple years between you and your low-ish GPA will be a good thing for admissions. You might also consider taking some graduate classes or doing a certificate at a university nearby wherever you work, to prove that you can work at a graduate level.
