I’m a senior at Cornell right now and I’m interested in applying to Oxford’s Development Studies program for grad school but i’m not sure what the admissions process is like for an American student and what my chances would be like. I have a 4.03 in Development Sociology so the gpa requirement is fine. It doesn’t seem as selective as the other programs with 30 spots for 197 applicants. Any advice from other students who’ve applied to Oxford for grad school or have some kind of experience with it? Thanks!
Keep in mind you would be an international student so would have less priority than UK students.
Appearances can be deceiving, @fourthmonth Still, anecdotally, getting into Oxford for grad school is easier for US students than getting into Oxford for undergrad, even though they have a similar overall acceptance rate. It is worth noting that at both the undergrad and grad level the degree of difficulty varies substantially by course.
Anyway, your GPA is merely a qualifier. Your Statement of Purpose, LoRs and written work submissions will matter much, much more. The admissions process is the same as for all applicants, domestic or international. They are looking for fit with the program and strong analytic & research chops.
